Former ‘Real Housewives’ Star Scores Legal Victory

As fans of “The Real Housewives of Potomac” know, Karen Huger is currently serving a prison sentence following her DUI in 2024. Of course, this means she was unavailable to film RHOP for the show’s upcoming 10th season. Now, a new report says Huger, known as “The Grande Dame,” has scored an early release.

Sources tell The Jasmine Brand that Huger, 62, is expected to be released from prison on September 2. If true, she will not be able to drive for one year following her early release. Fans will recall that she was sentenced in February to two years in prison with one year suspended. This means she was only supposed to serve one year. Her sentence began on February 27, 2025.

The “Real Housewives of Potomac” star was also fined $2,900 and given five years of probation for the incident. Notably, this was her fourth DUI, which is one of the reasons her sentence seems so hefty.

Huger’s Accident Happened in 2024

According to TMZ, Huger was driving her 2017 Maserati in March 2024 when she struck a median. She then hit a parking sign. She stated that at the time, she was emotional as she was driving due to the previous death of her mother. Huger also told police she had come from dinner with a friend.

The “Real Housewives of Potomac” star also claimed to have swerved in order to avoid hitting another vehicle. However, this has not been confirmed. It’s also important to note that neither Huger nor any other drivers were hurt as a result of the incident.

Huger was found guilty of seven of the eight charges she was facing in December 2024. Her charges included driving under the influence, negligent driving, failing to control her vehicle’s speed to avoid a collision, and failing to notify authorities of a change of address.

Filming for ‘The Real Housewives of Potomac’ Is Ongoing

The cast of “The Real Housewives of Potomac” began filming in April 2025. As mentioned, this means for the first time, Huger was not around when production began, marking her first season away from the show.

However, if she is to be released from prison early, as the report states, there is a chance she could be allowed to film. So far, the upcoming season includes Gizelle Bryant, Ashley Darby, Stacey Rusch, Wendy Osefo, Keiarna Stewart, and Monique Samuels as a friend of the show.
