Sheer fashion continues to dominate red carpets in Hollywood and beyond. From Dakota Johnson and Jenna Ortega to Lizzo and Charli XCX, all the hottest stars are showing up in see-through ensembles. That includes Mia Goth who has slayed the style on more than one occasion.
GettyOn October 13, Mia attended the “Frankenstein” Headline Gala at the 69th BFI London Film Festival at The Royal Festival Hall in London. For the event, she opted to wear a gorgeous deep lilac dress that stretched from her shoulders to her feet. While the material on top was sheer, the upper area had a lining across the chest. The back left her uncovered and added to the revealing nature of the piece. She also wore panties underneath as well as black heels to finish off the look.
GettyGranted, this isn’t the first time Mia has choosen to wear a sheer dress to a “Frankenstein” event. On October 6, she attened the Los Angeles premiere of the Netflix production at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles. She showed up in a black dress with puffy sleeves and a large ribbon falling down the front. Along with cutouts around the armpits, the dress was also made of a sheer lace.
Getty‘Transparent Fabrics’ Aren’t ‘Going Away Anytime Soon’
Fans of the sheer look will know that it’s been around for a while and, apparently, the sizzling trend won’t be fizzing out for a while.
“We’ve been tracking sheers on the runways as a key look for a few seasons now,” Emily Gordon-Smith, the content director and sustainability lead at Stylus, a trend forecasting company, told The Zoe Report. “Nineties and ‘00s nostalgia for layering and underwear dressing has been having a huge impact, but also this shift towards more decorative and playful fabrics has certainly represented an antidote to the comfort-led pragmatic dressing we all relied on in lockdowns.”
Gordon-Smith added: “Transparent fabrics are one of the key material messages so it’s not going away anytime soon.”
Sheer Looks Are ‘Fashion’s Version of a Wink’
If you’re not sure how to slay the sheer style yourself, just remember that there are a few helpful points to remember.
“The key to wearing it tastefully lies in playing with opacity, layering, and silhouettes to create an elegant yet effortless look,” designers Abraham and Thakore told Harper’s Bazaar India. “Think of clever underlayers, a sleek tank top under a sheer shirt, a sequined bikini top, or tiny shorts under a sheer skirt.”
Beyond that, celebrity stylist Eshaa Amin explained, “Sheer clothing is everywhere this season because it’s the perfect mix of bold and effortless. It lets you show a little without giving everything away — it’s fashion’s version of a wink!”
