MasterChef Is Going Global

This season of “MasterChef,” they are going global. The contestants will represent four regions of the world: Europe, Asia-Pacific, the Americas, and Africa. “MasterChef: Global Gauntlet” has arrived.

The amateur chefs arrive in the kitchen. Each country and nation is confident that it will win this season. The judges have arrived, so it’s really time to get started on “MasterChef” season 16.

The chefs will be divided into four territories. The only way to move on in the competition is to qualify. Only five chefs will move on to the next round from each territory. The only thing standing between them and the rest of the world is their signature dishes.

Europe Is on the Clock

Europe is up first tonight. The amateur chefs will be tasked with creating their signature dishes. They have 45 minutes. In order to move on to the next round, they will need to get yeses from all three judges. If they don’t, they will be heading home.

We see Julia, who is representing Italy. Her grandmother actually competed during Season 6 of “MasterChef.” We also see Dan, who is making crepes. Gordon comes out, and he remembers Julia’s grandmother and the apple pie she made. Time is up for these two, so time to do some tasting:

  • Dan – Gordon said visually they look nice, but very simple. The filling is very dense, but it needs more sweetness. Tiffany says everything looks perfect, but the filling feels chalky. Tiffany said it was a no from her, so Dan is heading home.
  • Julia – She made cannolis. The judges don’t like the plating, and hope they taste better than they look. Gordon said the shell is cooked beautifully. Tiffany said the flavors are there and not too sweet. All of the judges were a yes, so she is moving on in the competition.

Next Up on ‘MasterChef’

Time for some more amateur chefs to work on their signature dishes. Joe and Tiffany come out to talk with the next group and see what they’re cooking. Nico is struggling and wants to make Italian food perfect for Joe. The time runs out for this next group. Time to present their dishes to the judges:

  • Nico – While the judges thought his risotto was too liquid in the kitchen, he got it fixed before presenting it to the judges. They all enjoyed it, and it was three yes votes from the judges. Nico is headed to the next round.
  • Joselyn – She is here representing Scotland. Gordon questions the cook of the salmon. Yeah, the salmon is undercooked and raw in the middle. Because of that, she did not make it through.
  • Aghata – She is glad to be representing Spain on “MasterChef” season 16. Gordon said he loved the fragrance of the plate. Tiffany said visually, it’s beautiful. Joe said it’s very subtle, but very elegant. All of the judges loved it, so she got three yes votes and got an apron!

Poland Is In The House

Time for some amateur chefs representing Poland. We also have one contestant representing some Greek cooking. One of the contestants is here with her husband, who was a contestant during Season 11.

Chef Ramsay comes out and checks out what this new batch of chefs is working on. He is breaking plates with the Greek chef. However, he is cooking shrimp, which can easily overcook. Time for the judges to taste these plates:

  • Ted – He is representing Greece. Tiffany said it looks nice and appealing. She wanted to sop up all the sauce with the bread. Joe said it’s speaking his language. Gordon said the shrimp is cooked beautifully, but he thinks it’s a simple dish. While he was unsure, Gordon ended up being a yes, and Ted got that fourth apron for Europe.

It’s going to be a battle of Poland, as there is only one apron left and two chefs are being highlighted.

  • Basia – Gordon said it looks good. Tiffany was surprised by the flavor. Gordon said there are some mistakes here.
  • Jeff – Gordon said it’s tricky when cooking pork, especially with breadcrumbs. He said it’s a very humble dish. Joe said the fish is dry.

Only one of them could get an apron here. They both come out of the judges’ room, and it looks like Basia got the apron and is moving on in the competition. It was a no for Jeff.
