‘Supernatural’ Fan-Favorite Shares ‘Beautiful’ Tribute Remembering Friend, Eric Dane

The “Supernatural” family is showing up in a big way… and honestly, it’s exactly the kind of heartfelt support fans have come to expect.

Following the news of “Grey’s Anatomy” star Eric Dane’s passing on Thursday, February 19, 2026, one familiar face from the beloved CW series took a moment to honor the actor with a deeply personal memory. And yep, the story hits right in the feels.

Richard Speight Jr. (who fans know best as the trickster angel Gabriel on “Supernatural”) shared a touching Instagram tribute on Friday, February 20, 2026. His post didn’t just mourn the loss. It celebrated the kind of friendship that sticks with you, even across long stretches of time.

Let’s be real: this is the kind of remembrance that reminds everyone why this fandom still rides so hard for its cast.

A Memory That Stuck for 19 Years

In his post (seen above), Speight Jr. recalled first learning that Dane would be working with Jensen Ackles (a.k.a. “Supernatural’s” very own Dean Winchester); and his reaction was peak friend behavior.

He said, “When I found out @realericdane was teaming up with my other buddy @jensenackles to do a show, I texted Eric that he and Jensen should have a daily deep voice-off. Whenever I’d see Eric, he’d say in that rich timber of his, ‘What’s up, buddy?’”

It seems like that simple greeting became something much bigger over time.

Speight Jr. went on to share one of those small but unforgettable moments that families hold onto forever.

“Then when my first son was born, Eric looked at baby Steve as an infant in a crib and said, like he was talking to a 40-year-old man, ‘What’s up, itty-bitty buddy?’ My wife and I have been saying that around the house for the last 19 years. I genuinely, deeply liked him and felt connected as a pal even though we didn’t see each other for long blocks of time.”

Honestly? That’s the kind of story that says more than any polished tribute ever could.

The ‘Supernatural’ Family Shows Up

Speight Jr. closed his message with a hopeful note that balanced grief with warmth… very on brand for this tight-knit group.

He finished his post with, “And I guess this next block will be even longer. But someday, I believe we will cross paths again and I’ll get another ‘What’s up, buddy?’, a solid slap on the shoulder, and hopefully a game of Scrabble. Until then, my friend… #RIP #ALSSucks”

Ackles had already shared his own tribute, calling Dane “my brother” and adding the simple but powerful line, “I’ll see you down the road.” The two actors recently worked together on the 2025 series “Countdown,” making the loss feel especially close to home.

Meanwhile, fellow “Supernatural” alum Jeffrey Dean Morgan jumped into Ackles’ comments with a message that blended love and his signature humor. He wrote, “Big love to Dane and mcsteamy. Don’t think he didn’t make up some real smartass Mc. Names for me. None to be sharedع None to be shared on here. Love to Eric and his family…. You too J. Hard stuff all around. Xxx”

Through the sadness, one thing is crystal clear: Dane left a lasting impression on the people who knew him. And if these tributes are any indication, his legacy (and that unmistakable “What’s up, buddy?” energy) isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.
