Kate Walsh is happy in love. The “Emily in Paris” star opened up to PEOPLE at the premiere of Shakespeare in the Park’s “The Winter’s Tale” about her fiancé Andrew Nixon. Walsh, 58, has been in a relationship with Nixon since 2020.
The actress, who describes her life with Nixon as “really quiet” for the most part, also shared about the exciting parts of their relationship. Walsh is currently shooting for both film and TV projects but still engages in a life of “discovery” with her partner.

Kate Walsh has been married once before to 20th Century Fox executive Alex Young. The pair filed for divorce in 2008, only one year after marriage; it was finalized by 2010. Walsh’s personal life since then was largely private until she and Nixon made their relationship official.
Walsh met Nixon during an expedition to Antarctica with National Geographic in 2020. The two have continued to maintain an active life beyond their careers. According to Walsh, it’s the option of stepping in and out of their regular schedules that keeps things exciting.
“Andrew and I, well, we have a pretty fun life. We vacillate between really quiet and inside and then traveling the world,” Walsh told PEOPLE, “So just letting it be a discovery every day, you know? It’s never the same, so stay open.”

The duo was in New York for a date night. Walsh was in attendance for “The Winter’s Tale” to “support the arts” and connect with friends. She and Nixon don’t live in the United States, residing in Perth, Australia since 2022.
Walsh has called Nixon the “love of her life,” and said she’s at peace sharing a home with him and her pet cat and dog. The “Grey’s Anatomy” star had initially concealed their relationship before accidentally revealing her engagement. Walsh and “Private Practice” co-star Amy Brenneman were in an Instagram Live session when she introduced Nixon as her fiancé.
Walsh posted a carousel on Instagram for Nixon’s birthday. The pictures reveal the couple’s adventurous life, featuring moments from scuba diving to riding camels in the desert and safari trips in Kenya. The actress celebrated the times she’s shared with her fiancé on “planes, trains, automobiles, boats and even a camel or two!”
Kate Walsh Has Been Selective Of Her Career In Recent Years
Although she’s remained active over the last several years, Kate Walsh hasn’t been a regular presence onscreen. A recurring role in “Emily in Paris” came to a close in 2022.
Similarly, Walsh’s time in “The Umbrella Academy” ended with the series, where she alternated between main cast and recurring. Her most recent lead role was in “13 Reasons Why,” and Walsh also appeared in the films “Honest Thief” and “Sometime Other Than Now” around the same time.
“Grey’s Anatomy” fans were delighted when the actress announced she would be reprising the role of Addison Montgomery in 2026. Walsh has made guest appearances on the medical drama since 2021.
A planned return in a leading capacity failed to come to pass when the CBS pilot “The Tillbrooks” was not picked up for series.
