It’s not easy losing a parent, no matter how old you are. Six months after the loss of “Grey’s Anatomy” star Eric Dane, Rebecca Gayheart has opened up about the important values the two of them ensured their daughters would have. Despite some of the ups and downs that they had, they both had similar values when it came to parenting.
The values weren’t just in the wake of Dane’s ALS diagnosis. They were values that the two instilled from the beginning, ensuring that they could weather any storm that came their way. That included their own separation and co-parenting relationship they had.

The one thing anyone needs to be in life is resilient. It’s not always easy, and life is going to throw curveballs, and that’s why it’s important to be able to readjust and move forward. Gayheart is leading by example with her current projects, but it’s something that she and her late husband, Dane, believed was essential.
As her daughters grew up, she wanted to make sure that they were safe and had a good understanding about how to keep themselves in safe situations, and she thinks that she has done that. Now, it’s about being able to move forward. That doesn’t mean that it’s easy, but they are “soldiering on.”
Gayheart told E! News, “This is the number one, what we do as women. We go back to work. We say yes to things that are scary, and also, we do that even when life is hard.”
That doesn’t mean doing anything and everything. Gayheart did share that the “keeping themselves safe” value also leaned into the darker side of Hollywood. They both wanted to ensure their daughters set boundaries.
Part of soldiering on, though, is through work and school. Just recently, we shared that Gayheart’s younger daughter, Georgia, will star in her first movie, taking on the role of Gayheart’s on-screen daughter in a Lifetime movie that is based on true events. Gayheart noted that “it was really fun.”
She went on to gush about her 14-year-old, who has the “acting bug” and is studying at the Margie Haber Studio and has worked with Nancy Banks. Both of her children are looking to get into the industry, and while she is trying to stave it off a little longer, she knows it’s inevitable. One thing she does note is that “it’s a season of growth for all of us.”
‘Jawbreaker’ Is Back in Musical Form
GettyWhile discussing the values she wanted her daughters to have, Gayheart also teased a look at the way “Jawbreaker” has returned. It’s being developed into a musical, which was an important way to follow her own advice. She wanted to make sure that she remained creative and focused on building a future, and that led to looking back on the 1999 movie with Rose McGowan and Julie Benz, “Jawbreaker.”
The black comedy crime flick quickly became a cult classic, as it followed three teenagers who accidentally kill one of their friends. Rather than open up about that, they go on a mission to hide their crime, which just gets more hilarious as the investigation picks up steam.
When it came to learning that the movie was coming back in a different way, the former “Loving” star shared, “I am so excited, because I really believe that this movie needs to be turned into a musical. It’s so campy. It was made to be a musical.”
For the musical, the roles of Principal Sherwood and the detective have been combined into one role. It wasn’t an easy task, but it’s opened a role for Gayheart to play and has allowed her to bring her own take to the new role. She went on to share that “I love doing things that are out of my comfort zone.”
