“The Way Home” star Andie MacDowell has spoken openly about aging in the entertainment field, and she did it again while attending the Cannes Film Festival. The Hallmark star took to social media as she left France to share her thoughts on defending “aging” and “older” women while at the festival.
Andie MacDowell Urges Older Women to Love Themselves as They Age
GettyMacDowell shared a lengthy note on her Facebook page on May 17, and fans loved what she had to say. Her note began, “Sending everyone a heart full of love as I sit at the airport after many days of hard work here in Cannes talking about what it means to be an older woman.”
“The Way Home” star noted the importance of “Self-care, nurturing and loving yourself as you age.”
She acknowledged, “Often I feel like I’m on the defense for us aging as the world tries to tell us that it is a bad time in our life. I tell them it is glorious as long as we are nurturing and loving ourselves.”
“We are a vital part of our culture. We are interesting,” MacDowell wrote. She continued, “We have so many stories to tell. We have so much to offer and we deserve a seat at the table.”
Within hours, MacDowell’s Facebook page was flooded with thousands of likes and hundreds of comments.
“I needed to hear that today,” one fan admitted.
Another wrote, “Your greatest quality is your positive attitude. It fuels every other facet of self care needed to live your best life. I love how your natural beauty shines through and your wisdom precedes your arrival.”
The Hallmark Star Will Appear in ‘A Grand Biltmore Christmas’ Next
GettyMacDowell included suggestions on how women should prioritize self-care. “Being committed to building strong bones, a strong mind and a strong spirit and sense of self” are crucial, she noted.
“Life weights, jump, clear your lymph system, eat real food, lots of fruits and vegetables, and healthy proteins. I love my nuts and dried fruits,” she shared as examples. She also suggested, “So much of how your skin looks and if you radiate health is how you eat moisturize and care for yourself.”
Hallmark fans are currently watching MacDowell as Del Landry in the final season of “The Way Home,” as just a few episodes remain. That doesn’t mean that MacDowell is done with Hallmark projects, though.
MacDowell also has a role in Hallmark’s “A Grand Biltmore Christmas,” which will debut during Countdown to Christmas.
“A Grand Biltmore Christmas” is a sequel to the fan-favorite Hallmark movie, “A Biltmore Christmas.” As Southern Living noted, the new movie stars Holland Roden and Niall Matter. MacDowell plays Aunt Maysilee, described as “the prim, somewhat matronly yet spirited” aunt to Roden’s character, Elizabeth.
Aunt Maysilee is “Practical, traditional and somewhat meddling,” and she is assertive about letting her niece know her opinions on things.
At the end of her Facebook post about aging and Cannes, McDowell wrote that she was “Sending you all a heart full of love.”
