Benjamin Hollingsworth recently expressed support for a “Sullivan’s Crossing” and “Virgin River” crossover. As of now, there are no official plans for a crossover. However, the star of the latter series, who is also known for his roles in Hallmark‘s “Romance in Style” and “A Splash of Love,” weighed in on the potential of a crossover, saying that it would be “amazing.”
While the two shows don’t exist in the same place, they are both based on separate books by author Robyn Carr. Furthermore, “Sullivan’s Crossing” creator Roma Roth serves as executive producer and showrunner along with executive producer Christopher E. Perry, who are the same team behind “Virgin River.”
“Sullivan’s Crossing” follows Maggie Sullivan, a neurosurgeon who returns to her child home amid a professional scandal. There, she reunites with her estranged father, Sully Sullivan, and finds a budding romance with town newcomer Cal Jones, per Variety. The series stars Morgan Kohan, “Gilmore Girls” star Scott Patterson, and “Write Before Christmas” star Chad Michael Murray.
“Virgin River,” on the other hand, follows a nurse practitioner who moves from Los Angeles to a remote Northern California town seeking a fresh start and is surprised by what and whom she finds there, per IMDb. The series stars Alexandra Breckenridge and Martin Henderson. The cast also includes Hollingsworth alongside Colin Lawrence, Annette O’Toole, Tim Matheson, Sarah Dugdale, Zibby Allen, Marco Grazzini, and Kai Bradbury.
‘Virgin River’ Stars Could ‘See’ a Crossover Happening Between Shows
“We have to, right? I think that’s perfect and that would be amazing. I love that romance drama is really having a comeback and it’s gotten such momentum there,” Hollingsworth told Us Weekly in an exclusive interview from March 2026.
According to the outlet, Grazzini also expressed his support for the idea in a separate interview. “We obviously share fan bases. So that would be an awesome treat for everybody involved,” Grazzini told Us Weekly. “It would be fun to see what storyboards end up and what story lines end up happening. I’m down for that.”
Allen agreed, “I feel like that could happen. I could see that happening. I love a crossover situation.”

The Team Behind Both Shows Explain Their Similarities & Differences
“‘Sullivan’s Crossing’ starts out a bit more intense and slowly than ‘Virgin River’ does,” Carr told Variety during an October 2023 interview with Roth. “‘Virgin River’ moves really, really fast. And ‘Sullivan’s Crossing’ reminded me a little bit of the early season of ‘This Is Us.’ It’s pretty domestic, and it’s pretty much like a family drama. And it’s a lot of new characters for us, but they they have quite a long history together. And I’ve really, really loved it. I thought they did just a beautiful job. And they added things that I wish I had thought, like the Indigenous aspect.”
Roth claimed during the interview that “Sullivan’s Crossing” largely differs from “Virgin River” in that the latter is a “fish out of water” story, while the former is “a woman who is coming home to try and reconcile who she is now with who she once was.”
According to Carr, it’s the strong sense of community found in all of her novels that connect them.
“One of the things that make my series so popular with readers and viewers is the strong sense of community,” Carr said. “You really have to rely on your neighbors. You’re somewhat isolated from the larger crowd. And then even if you don’t like your neighbor, you will always have their back. Because that’s the only way you can exist.”
