‘The Way Home’ Star Details Terrifying Ice Storm: ‘Grateful’

On Hallmark‘s popular series “The Way Home,” Chyler Leigh‘s character, Kat Landry, has had to overcome many challenges. The riveting series, co-starring Andie MacDowell and Sadie Laflamme-Snow, follows three generations of women who can time-travel. It’s filled with raw emotion as they deal with missing family members, estrangement, and healing the past.

While Leigh has plenty of experience dealing with stressful situations as Kat, the actress found herself in a very real crisis when an ice storm hit Nashville, Tennessee. The actress took to Instagram to let fans know that her family is all right, and to document the experience.

Chyler Leigh Details Trees Falling Like ‘Mini Explosions’

“Hey friends… I live in Nashville,” Leigh began her post. “I prepped as well as I could for this ice storm. Truly. I have my kids and my pets with me, so I didn’t take an iota of the situation without great concern beforehand. That said, I’ve been without power since Sunday morning.”

The former “Grey’s Anatomy” star detailed that, while many “large trees and limbs” had fallen in their yard, they’d been fortunate not to have any land on their house. She described the sound of the trees falling as “mini explosions as the actual scene unfolded, trees crashing as they succumbed to the weight of the ice.”

She explained that after their power went out, they used a small generator to get news and updates about the storm while burning wood in their fireplace to keep warm. Fourteen hours later, they’d gone through all the wood.

“I kept my cool but to say it was stressful is an understatement,” she wrote.

When it became so cold in their house that Leigh could see her breath, they found a “warm, safe house with power.”

The ice storm that hit Nashville began as snow on Jan. 24, then turned to rain. With a high of 20 degrees, the rain quickly became freezing rain. According to weather.com, more than 130,000 people in Nashville were still without power on Jan. 28.

Chyler Leigh Thanks Power Crews, Offers Support to Storm Victims

Leigh concluded her post with gratitude, thanking all the workers out in the freezing weather, trying to restore power to Nashville residents. She also recognized that the storm had “unlocked a new level of resilience and humility about life’s luxuries” for her.

“To those of you that have suffered loss… including ALL of the cities across the map regarding the storm…” she added. “My empathy and thoughts are with you ❤️. Stay safe… stay warm.”

On Jan. 29, Leigh posted another update, sharing the exciting news that they had returned home and had power. She knew she was lucky, and sent “the warmest thoughts possible” to everyone still waiting for their own power to be restored.

She also mused that it might be time to get a generator to power their house, so that if any other storms occur in the future, they’ll be better prepared.

“In the meantime, I’ll be reaching out to the local landscape companies to remove a ridiculous amount of trees and limbs around the property,” she wrote.
