A Hallmark show is headed to Netflix, and fans are thrilled. “The Way Home,” which has aired three seasons and has been renewed for a fourth, will be available on Netflix beginning on October 1.
‘The Way Home’ Debuts on Netflix in October
According to the website What’s on Netflix, the streamer will have “The Way Home” available to watch starting in October.
“The Way Home” stars Andie MacDowell, Chyler Leigh, and Sadie Laflamme-Snow. Leigh plays Kat Landry, who returns to the small town where she grew up after being away for 20 years. She brings her daughter, Alice, played by Laflamme-Snow, and they face a complicated reunion with Kat’s mother, MacDowell’s Del.
The show incorporates a time travel element, and Hallmark teases that Kat and Alice “are determined to unearth the truth around the earlier tragedies as they try to change the course of events.”
As fans caught wind of the Netflix news, some took to social media and Reddit to share their reaction.
“So exciting, I’m hoping more people will give it a chance on Netflix! It’s not your typical Hallmark show. The cheese level is similar to Virgin River, but with a family saga and mysterious time travel. Seriously perfect for autumn,” one Reddit user shared.
Someone else wrote, “I’m excited! I don’t have Hallmark and I’ve been wanting to watch this one for a while. I’ll finally be able to see it. From everything I hear it’s supposed to be really good.”
A few fans of “The Way Home” thought that this meant Hallmark would not carry season 4 when it’s ready to air. However, that is not the case. Season 4 will air on Hallmark first, and head to Netflix at a later date.
Additional Hallmark Content Is Slated to Be Added to Netflix
In August, a fan started a thread in a subreddit for the show. “This show needs to be on Netflix for more people to find this show,” the fan wrote.
They continued, “This show deserves to be seen by more people and Netflix…has proven to be a great place to elevate shows exactly like this.”
Fans commenting on the thread at the time didn’t necessarily think it could happen, but now “The Way Home” will be available in both places.
Interestingly, as Dexterto noted, “The Way Home” was initially developed for Netflix. Lisa Hamilton Daly was with Netflix when she began developing the show, and she brought it to Hallmark when she moved to the network.
On September 23, The Hollywood Reporter shared additional details. The media outlet noted that a new deal between Hallmark and Netflix will lead to more Hallmark content becoming available on Netflix in the months ahead.
The first two seasons of “The Way Home” will be available beginning in October, and season 3 will debut on Netflix in February 2026. Season 4 will head to Netflix in “late 2026.”
In addition, several Hallmark Valentine’s Day movies will become available on Netflix. The list includes “Love in the Clouds,” “An Unexpected Valentine,” “Sisterhood, Inc.,” “Hats Off to Love,” and “The Royal We.”
For some Netflix users outside of the United States, several of Hallmark’s Christmas movies will become available on Netflix in November.
