A leaked video of Nicole Curtis saying a racial slur prompted HGTV to quickly cancel her show “Rehab Addict.” She issued an apology following the cancellation and later provided an update about how she’s doing and what’s next in her career.
Nicole Curtis Gives Update Following Her Show’s Cancellation
On February 27, Curtis took to Instagram to give her followers a brief update.
“My friends: 1. Please, don’t worry about me, that pic is from Season 1 in 2010 at the Lyndale House in Minneapolis right before I say, ‘I just want brick,'” she wrote. “I refused to [conform] and wear makeup as what was the sense in doing a show about my life if I wore makeup (when I never wore makeup). Now, in recent years, I decided to cover up those dark circles [on] camera 😊, but back then? Nope.”
Curtis continued, “2. I’m great (even though some friends at TMZ followed us from school and grabbed pics of me & commented I look ‘like she’s hiding with that down low’) … [joke’s] on them (I always look a bit disheveled & with my hat covering my tired mom look) and I was, by true form, rocking one of my own label flannels and representing Detroit with my hat of choice.”
She went on to explain that she’s dealing with more important matters than a TV show.
“3. I have a few friends battling for their lives right now, so don’t expect to find me curled up in fetal position regarding a tv show … ever,” the “Rehab Addict” star shared.
“Life is short, but also, a long game. I gave 15 years of my life to making millions of dollars for a lot of people (to those people, you’re welcome — btw, I made an episodic rate only — no residuals) and for a long time devoted my life to making them all happy — then I realized it wasn’t getting me to where I wanted to be — home with my family, my friends at peace.”
She added, “You all know this, I went from cranking out 30 episodes a year at my peak — to a calm … I’ll do some when I feel like it. Which, of course, bucked the system.”
As for what’s next, Curtis wrote, “4. I’m going to be filming all weekend at another house I saved. I will for sure be keeping all my media right next to me 😉 certain people have lost their entry ticket to my life in the past few weeks, but all good.”
“5. God has always had a plan for me and I’m here for it,” the former HGTV added. “6. Thank you ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️.”
Fans Share Words of Support for Curtis
Fans flooded the comments section, with many offering support. When one fan wrote that “colorful cuss words” are part of the job environment, Curtis shared, “the f word I use A LOT — this one, no and anyone who has ever known me will back me up on this ❤️.”
“You are the most resilient creative amazing woman that I’ve got to watch on TV recreating well loved homes,” another fan wrote. “I know you will do something incredible and we can’t wait to see what it is.”
“I just watched the clip. The media took this completely out of context,” one fan wrote. “You were horrified the moment you said it. This just sucks for you.”
Curtis responded, “And the guy that leaked it edited it — I have the raw, I know what happened and when I come out — everyone else will [too] — just getting all the rats out of the nest first.”
