“Property Brothers” Drew and Jonathan Scott have taken on hundreds of major renovation projects on their HGTV shows, but the twins claim there was only one property that was “too risky” to tackle.
Drew and Jonathan Scott on ‘No-Go’ Property
The “Celebrity IOU” stars opened up about the one property they toured that was beyond repair.
“This is back in the format of our show where we would tour with people when they were first looking for a house, and so the homeowners were looking for properties,” Jonathan, 47, explained in a recent interview with Realtor.com.
“As soon as we walked in, we were like, ‘This is a a no-go,'” Drew, also 47, added.
According to the brothers, the house hunters were “set on this one house.”
However, the home was built on an old landfill and was reportedly “sinking.”
“And so, it had massive structural problems. We told them: ‘This is not the house, do not buy this house.’ And they did it anyway,” Jonathan recalled. “And then they decided that they didn’t want to fix the problems properly. They just wanted to level the floor out. But then you’d have like a 6-and-a-half foot ceiling height at the back of the house.”
Jonathan and Drew ultimately walked away from the project after the homeowners decided to repair the property without securing proper permits, which Jonathan says “would have been illegal.”
“So that is the only episode of our shows, 650 plus shows, where we started filming it and got all the way to that, and then we eventually canned it because we weren’t going to do an illegal project,” Jonathan added.
Drew and Jonathan Scott Reveal Past Rift
The brothers have worked together on nearly every project over the decades, including their multiple HGTV series. However, despite being partners and twins, their paychecks were not always created equal.
According to Jonathan, he was paid more because he “used to film three times more than Drew,” due to the lengthy renovation process.
He explained during a recent appearance on SiriusXM’s Andy Cohen Live, “[Drew] would be there in the beginning, and then he would come back at the end of an episode, and I was there doing the work. I remember after doing this for 10 years — ‘cause we’ve been on the air now for over 15 years — I remember, I finally said to Drew, ‘Should I maybe get paid three times what you get paid?'”
While the brothers were able to settle the issue and put it in the past, Drew added, “Off-camera, Jonathan and I both do the construction. He’s the licensed contractor, but we’ve both done the renovations for years. And also, he was a licensed realtor broker, so we’ve done both sides of the fence. But we’ve enjoyed our product plan. We’ve had 12,500 products in the home space. We have multi-family real estate portfolios. So, there’s a lot outside of what people see on the shows.”

Used to enjoy the show but around the time Drew got married they went too Hollywood and I lost any ability to relate to their show.
