More Heartbreaking Details Emerge From Officials Following Hayden Panettiere’s Passing

New details have emerged following the death of actress Hayden Panettiere, but officials have not yet determined what caused her death.

The Greenville County Coroner’s Office released an update Monday afternoon, confirming that Panettiere died Sunday, Aug. 16, at age 36.

Officials Say ‘No Signs of Trauma’

According to officials, emergency responders were called to a Greenville, South Carolina, residence shortly before 2 p.m. after receiving a report of cardiac arrest.

First responders and emergency medical personnel arrived to find a woman in cardiac arrest and immediately began advanced cardiac life support efforts. Despite those attempts, Panettiere was pronounced dead at 2:32 p.m.

The coroner’s office identified the actress as Hayden Leslie Panettiere, 36, of California. Officials said she had been temporarily staying at the residence where she was found unresponsive.

An autopsy was completed Monday, but it did not immediately provide an answer regarding her death.

“At autopsy no signs of trauma were discovered that would have contributed to the death,” the coroner’s office said in its statement.

The cause and manner of death remain pending while officials complete additional studies.

The investigation is being conducted by the Greenville County Coroner’s Office in conjunction with the Greenville City Police Department.

“This investigation remains active and ongoing. No further details are available for release at this time,” officials said.

There have also been reports about medication found at the residence.

Narcan Was Found at the Scene

TMZ reported that Narcan, a medication used to reverse the effects of an opioid overdose, was found inside the apartment. According to the outlet, the device used to administer the medication was found on a mattress.

First responders reportedly referenced an “overdose” while communicating with dispatch during the emergency.

However, the circumstances surrounding the medication remain unclear, and officials have not determined that an overdose caused Panettiere’s death.

TMZ also reported that two ambulances responded to the residence and that epinephrine was used during the resuscitation efforts. Epinephrine is commonly used as part of emergency treatment for cardiac arrest.

The coroner’s findings do not currently establish a cause of death, and additional testing will be required before officials reach a final conclusion.

Panettiere’s family previously confirmed her death in a statement shared with PEOPLE.

Her father, Skip Panettiere, said, “It is with profound sadness that we share the tragic passing of our beloved Hayden.”

“She was an incredible light and a force of nature who brought immeasurable love and joy to all who knew her—and to the millions who watched her onscreen,” he continued.

Panettiere began acting as a child and went on to become widely known for her roles as Claire Bennet on NBC’s “Heroes” and Juliette Barnes on ABC’s “Nashville.” She also appeared in several films, including “Scream 4” and “Scream VI.”

She is survived by her daughter, Kaya, whom she shared with former fiancé Wladimir Klitschko.

For now, officials have emphasized that the investigation remains ongoing. Until the additional studies are completed, Panettiere’s official cause and manner of death will remain undetermined.
