New details have come out regarding Hayden Panettiere’s sudden passing at the age of 36.
Police and emergency personnel responded to a report of an “unresponsive female” around 1:50 p.m. local time on Sunday, Aug. 16, a spokesperson for the Greenville Police Department said in a statement obtained by PEOPLE. The caller was a friend of Panettiere.
“Upon arrival, medical assistance was administered; however, the individual, later identified as Hayden Panettiere, was pronounced deceased at the scene,” the spokesperson said. “The case is under investigation by the Greenville Police Department in conjunction with the Greenville County Coroner’s Office. The preliminary investigation has not indicated any signs of foul play or suspicious circumstances. An acquaintance of Ms. Panettiere placed the 911 call.”
TMZ further reported that first responders attempted to resuscitate Panettiere using “advanced cardiac life support” as well as special medicines, breathing tubes, and heart rhythm tracking. She was pronounced dead at 2:32 p.m. as paramedics were unable to revive her.
Hayden Panettiere Believed To Have Died Due To An Overdose
According to dispatch audio obtained by PEOPLE, authorities can be heart discussing an “overdose” and “cardiac arrest” around the time of the actress’s death.
An official cause of death has not been revealed at the time of publication.
TMZ further reports that an autopsy is set to be performed on Monday, Aug. 17.
Following news of her passing, Panettiere’s father released a statement.
“It is with profound sadness that we share the tragic passing of our beloved Hayden. She was an incredible light and a force of nature who brought immeasurable love and joy to all who knew her — and to the millions who watched her onscreen,” her father, Skip Panettiere, said in a statement to ABC News.
He also asked for privacy “as our family takes time to process this unimaginable loss.”
Hayden Panettiere’s Brother Also Died From a Heart Condition
GettyJust a few years before her passing, Panettiere suffered the heartbreaking loss of her brother, Jansen, who died at the age of 28 from cardiomegaly, or an enlarged heart, combined with aortic valve complications, as per NBC News.
In a 2024 interview with PEOPLE, she spoke about the impact his passing had one her.
“I just ballooned out,” she said, referring to her 40-pound weight gain. “It didn’t matter what I did, what I ate. I know stress and cortisol running through your body can do that. Now I think my body was protecting itself, shielding itself from the world.”
She went on to detail the guilt she felt as the older sister, feeling a desire to “protect him.”
“When I lost him, I felt like I lost half of my soul… I will always be heartbroken about [him], I will never be able to get over it. No matter how many years go by, I will never get over his loss,” she said.
