New details surrounding Hayden Panettiere’s death have raised questions. These concern the actress’ final medical emergency and her younger brother’s history of heart problems.
Panettiere, 36, was found unresponsive at a home in South Carolina on Sunday, August 16. Emergency responders were called for a person experiencing cardiac arrest. They attempted to revive her using CPR and advanced cardiac life support measures.
She was later pronounced dead at the scene.
An autopsy is pending, and officials have not yet determined Panettiere’s official cause of death. There is also no current evidence that she had the same heart condition that contributed to her brother’s death.
Hayden Panettiere’s Brother Jansen Died at 28
Panettiere’s younger brother, Jansen Panettiere, died suddenly in February 2023 at age 28.
Jansen, who also worked as an actor, appeared in projects including “Even Stevens”, “That’s So Raven”, “The X’s” and “Tiger Cruise”, in which he appeared alongside his sister. Later, he focused on his artwork.
His death devastated Hayden, who had been extremely close with her brother.
After the medical examiner completed the investigation, Jansen’s family revealed that he died from cardiomegaly, or an enlarged heart. He also had aortic valve complications.
Hayden later spoke openly about the impact of losing her brother. While promoting her 2026 memoir, “This Is Me: A Reckoning”, she discussed the grief she experienced following his death.
She also addressed Jansen’s death during an appearance on Jay Shetty’s “On Purpose” podcast, saying she did not “want to live in a world where he doesn’t exist.”
Did Hayden Have the Same Heart Condition?
There is currently no evidence that Hayden had cardiomegaly or the same heart condition as Jansen.
The fact that emergency responders found Hayden in cardiac arrest does not establish what caused the arrest. Moreover, it does not show whether she had an underlying heart condition.
Cardiac arrest occurs when the heart suddenly stops pumping blood effectively. It can have numerous underlying causes. The circumstances surrounding Panettiere’s death remain under investigation. Cardiomegaly is the medical term for an enlarged heart. However, it is not a disease itself but rather a sign that the heart has become enlarged because of an underlying condition or other factor.
In Jansen’s case, the medical examiner specifically cited cardiomegaly and aortic valve complications as contributing to his death. Whether Hayden had any underlying heart condition remains unknown. Authorities have also said there were no initial signs of foul play.
More About Panettiere’s Passing
Panettiere’s representative confirmed her death on August 16 at age 36.
She was found unresponsive at a residence in Greenville, South Carolina. Emergency responders attempted to revive her after she went into cardiac arrest.
Her official cause of death has not been released, and an autopsy is expected to provide more information.
For now, the circumstances of her death remain under investigation. There is no confirmed connection between Hayden’s cardiac arrest and the heart condition that caused her brother’s death.
