‘Spider-Man’ Star Tom Holland Turns 30 — See Photos of Him Then & Now

The brilliant Tom Holland turns 30 today! The actor (and Mr. Zendaya himself) was born on June 1, 1996, in south-west London, England.

Holland began performing as a child in the 2000s. His first major acting job came on stage, in 2006, playing Michael Caffrey, the eponymous character’s best friend, in “Billy Elliot the Musical.” In 2008, Holland was promoted to the lead role in the production.

His first screen role came in 2010, when he voiced Shō in the British-English dub of the Japanese animated fantasy movie “Arrietty.” His first live-action screen role came in the 2012 biographical disaster film “The Impossible,” alongside Naomi Watts and Ewan McGregor. At that point, his career exploded.

The star is now best known for playing Peter Parker, aka Spider-Man, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. His other prominent movie credits include 2015’s historical adventure “In the Heart of the Sea,” 2021’s crime drama “Cherry,” and 2022’s action adventure video game adaptation “Uncharted.”

On television, he’s appeared in the likes of the historical drama “Wolf Hall” and the psychological thriller miniseries “The Crowded Room.”

Early Fame

Holland’s acting career began when he was cast as Billy Elliot’s best friend Michael Caffrey in 2006. He was promoted to the lead role (along with co-star Tanner Pflueger) in 2008.


The Early 2010s

The early 2010s were when Holland’s acting career really began to take off. His first screen credit came with a voice role in the 2010 Japanese animated fantasy movie, “Arrietty”.

However, after landing a key role in 2012’s biographical disaster movie “The Impossible,” he became a young man in demand. He appeared in the 2013 romantic speculative drama movie “How I Live Now” and voiced the eponymous character’s son in psychological road drama film “Locke” that same year. In 2014, he cameoed in the “Billy Elliot the Musical Live,” a filmed version of the stage play of the same name.


The Mid-Late 2010s

In the mid-late 2010s, Holland’s career absolutely exploded.

For starters, he landed his first television role. The young actor played Gregory Cromwell in six episodes of the British historical drama series “Wolf Hall.” He also appeared in the 2017 “Zendaya vs. Tom Holland” episode of “Lip Sync Battle.”

Movie-wise, he was propelled to superstardom. In 2015, he played Thomas Nickerson in the historical adventure drama movie “In the Heart of the Sea.” In 2016, he landed the iconic role of Peter Parker, aka Spider-Man, in the Marvel superhero movie “Captain America: Civil War.” That year, he also appeared in Canadian psychological thriller drama “Edge of Winter,” stood in for Liam Neeson as the titular creature in fantasy drama “A Monster Calls,” and appeared in the epic biographic adventure drama “The Lost City of Z.”

2017 saw him appear in the Irish medieval movie “Pilgrimage,” reprise his role as Spider-Man for the first time in “Spider-Man: Homecoming,” and appear in historical drama film “The Current War.” In 2018, he played Spider-Man again in “Avengers: Infinity War.” He reprised said role twice more in 2019, in “Avengers: Endgame” and “Spider-Man: Far From Home,” then lent his voice to the animated spy comedy “Spies in Disguise.”


The Early 2020s

Holland’s career continued to go from strength to strength in the early 2020s.

He landed his second major television acting role. The star played lead character Danny Sullivan in all ten episodes of the psychological thriller miniseries “The Crowded Room.”

On the big screen, Holland started the decade with voice roles in fantasy adventure “Dolittle” and animated urban fantasy adventure “Onward.” He ended 2020 playing the lead role in the southern gothic psychological thriller “The Devil All the Time.” A busy 2021 saw Holland play the title character in crime drama “Cherry,” play a key role in the sci-fi action thriller “Chaos Walking,” and appear two more times as Spider-Man in “Venom: Let There Be Carnage” (in a mere cameo) and “Spider-Man: No Way Home.” In 2022, he played the lead role of Nathan Drake in the action adventure video game adaptation “Uncharted” (which he also executive produced).

Holland hasn’t yet appeared in any movies in the second half of the 2020s. However, he will play Telemachus in Christopher Nolan’s epic fantasy action movie “The Odyssey.” That hits theaters in July. He will also reprise his role as Spider-Man again in “Spider-Man: Brand New Day.” That one’s also out in July. We look forward to seeing them both.

He has been in a relationship with Zendaya since 2021 and they appear to be thriving together.
