Nev Schulman, the host of the long-running MTV series “Catfish,” has announced a career pivot into the competitive New York City real estate market, according to People.
Schulman, now a licensed real estate salesperson, will be working with Coldwell Banker Warburg. According to his website bio, the “Dancing With The Stars” runner-up was born and raised in New York City, where he will now help clients navigate the cutthroat housing market.
Nev Schulman Started in Unscripted TV & Film
GettyBefore he worked in real estate and before he was the host of a successful MTV reality show, Schulman was himself the victim of a catfish.
A 2010 documentary directed by Schulman’s brother and friend, Ariel Schulman and Henry Joost, followed the future real estate salesperson as he developed a relationship with a woman over Facebook.
Unfortunately, the woman Schulman had been talking to was not who she claimed to be, nor were most of the things she told him true. The documentary coined the term “catfish” and spawned the nine-season MTV show.
That show has gone on to generate multiple international versions and spinoff series, including “Catfish: Trolls” and “Ghosted: Love Gone Missing,” as well as a podcast.
Schulman has worked with multiple cohosts over the years, namely Max Joseph and Kamie Crawford, although season 7 featured a rotating cast of guest hosts. In October 2024, Crawford announced she would no longer be involved with the MTV series.
There has been no word yet as to whether or not a 10th season is in the works or who Schulman’s cohost will be.
Nev Schulman’s Past Prepared Him for This New Role
GettySchulman credits his past with preparing him for his new endeavor. According to People, Schulman said the following:
“Hosting Catfish taught me how to listen deeply, build trust quickly, and help people navigate some of the most emotional decisions of their lives. Real estate in New York is no different — you need empathy, patience, and the ability to see through the noise to find the right home.”
Schulman isn’t the first person in his family to try his hand at real estate; his father, Robert Schulman, is a broker at the same firm. Schulman’s family ties to the industry played a role in his decision, about which he said:
“After watching my father dedicate more than 50 years to this business, it feels meaningful to follow in his footsteps and join Coldwell Banker Warburg — a firm that shares the same values of integrity and personal connection that I grew up admiring.”
Nev Schulman Does More Than Real Estate & Television
GettySchulman is a busy man. In addition to hosting a TV show, breaking into the luxury real estate market, and raising three children with his wife, Laura Perlongo, Schulman is deeply invested in his philanthropy work. He’s worked with Dance Against Cancer, The Urban Justice Center, and Achilles International.
Schulman also runs marathons, an especially impressive feat after the “Dancing With The Stars” finalist broke his neck, having been hit by a truck while biking. Clearly, the sky’s the limit for this famous New Yorker.
