While Celine Dion and her fans are more than just a little excited about the upcoming shows in Paris that she’s just announced, those around the star are concerned about her well-being amid her serious health issue.
“The news comes nearly four years after Dion publicly revealed her diagnosis of stiff person syndrome [SPS], a rare neurological disorder that causes severe muscle rigidity and spasms — affecting her ability to both walk and sing,” according to Parade. “She had been away from performing since 2020, when the pandemic first forced her tour off the rails, followed by the diagnosis that sidelined her indefinitely.”
Parade also notes that “[w]hile those close to her acknowledge the progress she’s made, some are drawing the line at a full-scale arena run.”
Celine’s Paris Shows Might Be ‘a Step too Far’
“Nobody could deny that Celine has made great progress,” a source told Closer while discussing Dion, adding that the star has a “far more comfortable life than she could have dreamed of having” when she first got the diagnosis of SPS in 2022.
“But putting herself up for this type of physical challenge is a step too far, as far as a lot of people in her world are concerned,” the source noted. “It’s not just about her voice being ready, more the physical exertion and overall stress that she’s putting herself through.”
“The consensus is that Celine should be easing herself back in, not jumping headfirst into the top level of performing,” the source continued. “But she’s determined to pull this off and feels there’s a real point to prove after the criticism she got at the Olympics.”
Closer explains that “[r]umors began swirling that the five-time Grammy winner lip-synched to a pre-recorded track at the 2024 opening ceremony in Paris after a French newspaper posed the question.”
“That riled Celine, and she’s aching to get back on stage and show everyone what she’s capable of,” according to the source, “even if privately she, herself, would agree it comes at a huge risk.”
‘I’m Feeling Good, I’m Strong’
“In an emotional video message broadcast on March 30, 2026, … on her own birthday, global icon Celine Dion exclusively revealed her return to the stage … with CELINE DION PARIS 2026 — a landmark five-week limited engagement at the renowned Paris La Défense Arena,” according to the star’s website.
“Over the last few years, every day that’s gone by, I’ve felt your prayers and support, your kindness and love. You’ve helped me in ways that I can’t even describe, and I’m truly fortunate to have your support,” Dion said in her message. “This year, I’m getting the best birthday gift of my life…I’m getting the chance to see you, to perform for you once again in Paris, beginning in September! I’m feeling good, I’m strong, I’m feeling excited, obviously a little nervous, but most of all, I’m grateful to all of YOU! I love you all, and I’ll see you soon!”
The website notes that “[b]eginning Saturday, September 12, 2026, Celine will ignite Europe’s largest indoor arena for 10 unforgettable nights through October 14, marking one of the most highly anticipated live music events of the decade.”
