Celine Dion is mourning the loss of one of her most memorable musical collaborators. The singer shared an emotional tribute to Peabo Bryson after the Grammy-winning vocalist died Tuesday at age 75. According to a statement from his family obtained by People on June 2, Bryson died days after suffering a stroke.

In a heartfelt Instagram post, Dion reflected on the friendship they built while recording Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast,” the beloved duet that helped introduce her to a wider English-speaking audience and earned the pair a Grammy Award.

“I’m heartbroken to heart that we lost Peabo Bryson today. His incredible voice and his kind spirit embodied the beauty of song and performance,” Dion wrote.


Dion Says Bryson Helped Her Feel Comfortable Singing in English

Alongside a throwback photo from the American Music Awards, Dion looked back on the warmth and encouragement Bryson showed her when they first worked together.

“He was so wonderful and generous to me all those years ago, when we recorded Beauty And The Beast.”

The singer recalled that Bryson helped put her at ease at a pivotal moment in her career, when she was still gaining confidence as an English-language performer.

“He made me so comfortable, as I was just learning to sing in English. He will remain for me always as a real symbol of joy that music has brought to my life. His voice and talent will be missed.”

Dion ended the tribute by sending her love to Bryson’s family and honoring the lasting impact he had on her life.

“My heart is with your family, and may you rest in peace Peabo. Love, Celine xx.”

Bryson’s music left a lasting mark on generations of listeners, especially through the Disney songs that helped define the 1990s.

His duet with Dion on “Beauty and the Beast” became an instant classic and earned the pair a Grammy Award.

A few years later, he returned to the Disney spotlight with “A Whole New World” from “Aladdin,” recorded with Regina Belle. The song also won a Grammy and remains one of the studio’s most beloved ballads.

Away from Disney, Bryson built a remarkable career that spanned more than five decades. Family Says Bryson Died Surrounded by Loved Ones

Bryson’s family confirmed in a statement published by TMZ that the singer “transitioned peacefully at 5:00 p.m. ET” with his loved ones by his side. The statement read: “With broken hearts and profound sadness, the family of two-time Grammy Award-winning singer, songwriter, and balladeer, Peabo Bryson, announces his passing.”

They remembered him as a devoted husband, father, friend, and artist whose impact reached far beyond his music. The family also offered thanks to fans around the world for the outpouring of prayers, love, and compassion during such a painful time.

Bryson leaves behind a loving family, including his wife, Tanya Boniface Bryson, son Robert, daughter Linda Bryson and three grandchildren.
