Céline Dion’s Life Story Is Getting Its First-Ever TV Drama

Céline Dion‘s early life is headed for TV.

A new scripted drama about Dion’s childhood is in development, according to Deadline. The series is currently using the working title “Growing Up Dion” and will focus on the years before the Canadian singer became a global superstar.

This is not another project loosely circling Dion’s story from the outside. Deadline reports that Dion’s family has formally supported the dramatized adaptation, marking a first for a series about her childhood.

The project is based on “Dion, A Family Saga,” written by Dion’s nephew Jimmy Dion. Her brother Jacques Dion is also attached as a producer.

Before the Vegas residencies, the massive ballads and the “Titanic” anthem heard ’round the world, Dion was growing up in Quebec as the youngest child in a very full house.

“Growing Up Dion” will focus on that part of her life.

According to Deadline, the drama will look at the “”The Power of Love” singer’s childhood in a modest home where music was always part of the picture. The series will also explore her bond with her mother, Thérèse Dion, along with the close relationships inside the Dion family.

Dion was one of 14 siblings, which gives the show a built-in family ensemble before the story ever gets to the stage.

Jacques Dion told Deadline the project means a lot to the family.

“This series represents something deeply meaningful for our family, as it captures the spirit, struggles, and love that defined our upbringing,” Jacques said. “We are proud to finally share this story with the world in a way that feels true to who we are.”

The drama is being showrun by Zoë Green. Her previous credits include “Sirens” and “Carnival Row.”

Deadline reports that the project comes from Diamant Rouge Entertainment. Nicolas Giafferi and Jacques Dion are producing the series.

Eduardo Rossoff, Jacques Dion, Giafferi and Caroline Kusser are executive producers. Kusser is overseeing international distribution. Jimmy Dion is consulting.

The series is currently being taken out to international buyers. For now, “Growing Up Dion” is still in the early stages. The cast, network and release date have not been revealed.

The family support is one of the biggest pieces of the project.

The “Because You Loved Me” singer’s life and career have been dramatized before, but “Growing Up Dion” is being positioned as the first childhood adaptation to have formal support from her family.

Dion’s story has reached the screen before, including the 2021 musical comedy-drama “Aline,” which was loosely inspired by her life, and the 2008 TV movie “Céline.”

There is also “Titanique,” the Broadway jukebox musical that turns “Titanic” into a Céline Dion-powered parody.

This new series appears to be taking a different lane by starting at home, with Dion’s family, her childhood and the early pieces of the voice that would eventually make her famous around the world.

Dion went on to become one of the best-selling singers of all time.

The project also comes after Dion’s return to the spotlight following her Stiff Person Syndrome diagnosis. The singer stepped back from performing after sharing her health struggles, then returned to the stage at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Deadline reports that Dion is in good health and will soon tour Paris.
