Doechii Goes Barefoot in Marc Jacobs Gown for 2026 Met Gala

Grammy-Award winning rapper Doechii cemented her status as one of fashion’s most thrilling stars. She did so with a jaw-dropping sophomore appearance at the 2026 Met Gala.

Charged with interpreting the night’s open-ended dress code, “Fashion Is Art,” the artist delivered a powerful and deeply personal statement. She chose to treat her entire body as a revered, living sculpture. Her rebellious, and utterly singular interpretation of the theme immediately secured her spot as a top talking point of the evening. Moreover, she blended high fashion with a raw, earthy sensibility.

For her 2026 moment, Doechii partnered with the iconic designer Marc Jacobs. She arrived in a flowing, deconstructed gown rendered in a rich, dramatic burgundy hue. The look achieved towering verticality through a massive, sculptural headpiece—a wrapped headscarf that matched the dress. It commanded attention with its sheer scale.

Yet, the most radical element was her deliberate choice of footwear, or lack thereof: Doechii walked the iconic steps completely barefoot. This singular decision was a direct interpretation of the dress code. As a result, she effectively turned her entire physical being into a “living canvas.” She stripped away formality to emphasize the art itself.

Fashion is Art: A ‘Dark, Feminine’ Energy

Every detail of Doechii’s look reinforced her “living artwork” concept, right down to her fingertips and toes.

Her nail artist, Rachel Sun, created a stunning 3D effect on her nails to replicate unpolished, naturally forming crystal clusters. The highly advanced nail art was a critical feature. In addition, Sun intended for viewers to view it strictly as a form of jewelry rather than a practical beauty feature.

The meticulous crystal design was even extended to her pedicure. This ensured no beauty detail was left untouched as she stepped barefoot onto the carpet.

Meanwhile, her makeup artist, Chelsea Uchenna told Vogue she designed the look to embody a “dark, feminine” energy. To give her face a glowing, art-canvas-like finish that complemented the theme, her team purposefully chose Milk Makeup’s Hydro Grip Hydrating Gel Skin Tint. They specifically avoided her usual satin or matte finishes.

A Bold Evolution of Red Carpet Persona

Doechii’s commitment to her aesthetic vision comes as her star continues to rise in the fashion world. Her stylist, Sam Woolf, had just won a breakthrough stylist award earlier that week—an award Doechii herself handed him. The rapper has previously stated that her personal aesthetic comes from a place of loving to “[mess] things up” and buck the status quo. Furthermore, this barefoot, goddess look is a direct continuation of the earthy, bohemian energy she channeled earlier that season at the Grammys.

This draped fabric and bare skin appearance marks a massive and dramatic polar opposite to her first Met Gala in 2025. At the previous year’s event, she wore an androgynous, highly structured Louis Vuitton pinstripe short suit paired with a heavy tailcoat. This was a direct homage to the late fashion icon André Leon Talley.

By moving from a sharp, structured tribute piece to a fluid, radical statement about the nature of art and the body, Doechii proves she is an artist who is unafraid to constantly challenge expectations. In addition, she redefines her red-carpet identity year after year.
