Sabrina Carpenter’s Met Gala Dress Is Made, Literally, from Her Favorite Movie

Sabrina Carpenter didn’t just ooze old Hollywood glam at the 2026 Met Gala, she literally wore old Hollywood on the carpet.

The “Please, Please, Please” singer stunned in a Doir dress made entirely out of film strips. Speaking with La La Anthony on the Vogue livestream about the custom look from Jonathan Anderson, Carpenter described it as a “dream dress.”

Carpenter’s show-stopping look featured a halter neck, thigh-high leg slit, and bustle, as well as diamond headpiece.

In her interview with Anthony, Carpenter confirmed the dress was “all made of film, which is my dream.” Calling it her “dream dress,” she added, “It’s amazing, it’s just from the movie ‘Sabrina,’ which is one of my favorite films off all time.

The 1954 classic stars Audrey Hepburn, Humphrey Bogart, and William Holden, and is about a woman who finds herself in a love triangle with a pair of brothers. A remake starring Harrison Ford, Julia Ormond, and Greg Kinnear was also released in 1995.

This year marks Sabrina’s fourth time at the Met Gala. After making her debut in 2022 for the “In America: An Anthology of Fashion”-themed affair, she returned in 2024 for the “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion” carpet and again in 2025. For last year’s “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style” theme, she bared her legs in a perfectly-tailored Louis Vuitton bodysuit.

When asked what Carpenter was looking forward to most at the 2026 celebration, she told Anthony, “So many friends inside. Looking forward to seeing the performance, I always love that. And the exhibit.”

The annual event is held to help raise funds for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute.

This year’s spring exhibition at the center of the celebration is “Costume Art,” while the dress code for the red carpet is “Fashion is Art.”

According to Vogue, the exhibition “explores the ‘centrality of the dressed body’ through depictions and interpretations of the human form,” with dresses paired with paintings, sculptures, and other works from art history.

“In turn, the dress code encourages attendees to consider the many ways that designers use the body as their blank canvas,” added the publication.

The co-chairs for the 2026 Met Gala are Beyoncé, Nicole Kidman, Venus Williams, and Anna Wintour.

Carpenter, meanwhile, was part of the 2026 Met Gala Host Committee, alongside Doja Cat, Gwendoline Christie, Alex Consani, Misty Copeland, Elizabeth Debicki, Lena Dunham, Paloma Elsesser, LISA, Chloe Malle, Sam Smith, Teyana Taylor, Lauren Wasser, Anna Weyant, A’ja Wilson, and Yseult.

Additional attendees included Kim Kardashian, Gigi Hadid, Blake Lively, Heidi Klum, Kylie and Kendall Jenner, Blue Ivy, Katy Perry, Hugh Jackman, Ciara, Ben Stiller, Cher, Hailey Bieber, and Madonna.

Carpenter, of course, recently released a new single with the Queen of Pop, after the pair’s surprise collaboration at Coachella in April. During Sabrina’s Weekend Two set at the desert festival, the two performed Madonna’s “Vogue” and “Like a Prayer,” while teasing their joint single, “Bring Your Love,” from Madonna’s upcoming Confessions II album.
