Jack Osbourne Shares Emotional Final Conversation With Ozzy Osbourne

Ozzy Osbourne’s son, Jack Osbourne, is opening up about the final weeks he spent with his father before the legendary rocker’s death.

Ozzy, widely known as the frontman of Black Sabbath, died on July 22, 2025, at the age of 76.

His passing came just 17 days after he performed a farewell concert with the band in Birmingham, England — a show that brought the Osbourne family together as they traveled from Los Angeles to witness the historic performance.

Jack Talks About His Late Dad

During a recent appearance on the “Hate to Break It to Ya” podcast, Jack reflected on a quiet moment he shared with his father shortly after the concert that made him realize Ozzy was ready to step away from the life he had lived for decades.

According to Jack, the realization came the night before he returned to Los Angeles.

As he helped his father get ready for bed, Ozzy stood in front of a mirror brushing his teeth and casually mentioned something that caught Jack off guard.

“Right before I left, I was putting him to bed and he was brushing his teeth,” Jack recalled. “He was looking at himself in the mirror and he goes, ‘I think I’m going to cut my hair off.’”

Jack said he asked his father why he would want to make such a change after so many years of maintaining his iconic rock star look.

Ozzy’s answer stuck with him.

“I’ve retired,” Ozzy reportedly told him. “I’m not a rock star anymore.”

For Jack, the comment signaled something deeper. Ozzy’s long hair had long been part of his public persona, and the idea of cutting it felt symbolic of closing a major chapter in his life.

Reflecting on that moment, Jack said it helped him understand that his father had made peace with where he was in life.

“I think about that now and I’m like, yeah, he was done,” Jack explained. “He was okay with his journey.”

Jack Opens Up About Losing Ozzy

Despite Ozzy’s ongoing health struggles, Jack said the family still wasn’t prepared for how quickly his death would come.

“Obviously everyone knew he was sick,” he said. “But we weren’t expecting it to be as quick as it was.”

Jack described his father’s final day as surprisingly ordinary. Ozzy was awake, going about his morning routine and even eating breakfast before suddenly passing away.

The experience has led Jack to reflect on the idea that people may sometimes feel when they are ready to let go.

“I think we do have a choice to a degree,” he said, suggesting that on a deeper level, some people may know when it’s time to move on.
