‘I Wish He Was Still Here’: Jack Osbourne Tearfully Reveals How He Learned of Dad Ozzy’s Passing

Jack Osbourne is opening his heart about his life’s greatest loss. Jack grew emotional as he recalled the heartbreaking moment he learned his father, Ozzy Osbourne, had passed away. In a YouTube video shared Wednesday, the 39-year-old reality star explained that a trusted family employee, who had been with them for three decades, arrived at his Los Angeles home at 3:45 a.m. to break the news.

“When I looked through my window and I saw it was him, I knew something bad had happened,” Jack said quietly. “I was informed that my father had passed.”

Jack Remembers the Early Morning Knock on His Door

Jack explained that the messenger had worked with the Osbourne family for three decades, making the sight of him at such an early hour even more unsettling. The moment marked the beginning of a painful but deeply reflective chapter for the family.

Jack said he cherished unexpected extra time with Ozzy after staying in the UK following Black Sabbath’s final concert in Birmingham on July 5.

He and his family had planned to vacation in Portugal, but canceled when his children came down with the stomach flu.

“I’ve never been more grateful for my kids to have the stomach flu than I am today,” Jack said, reflecting on those precious days.

Finding Peace Amid Sadness Over Ozzy’s Passing

While devastated by his father’s death, Jack said he felt peace knowing Ozzy was no longer suffering.

“I wish he was still here, I wish he was still with us all, but he was having a rough go,” Jack admitted. “But nobody expected it to happen as quickly as it did, and when it did. It was not anything that was on our radar.”

Ozzy died on July 22 of a heart attack at 76. He had also been living with coronary artery disease and Parkinson’s disease.

A source told Page Six that the rock legend was “re-energized” by his final Black Sabbath concert. “It filled him with life,” a close friend shared. “It’s a beautiful ending.”

Remembering Ozzy’s Humor, Wisdom & Awareness

Jack grew emotional as he reflected on his father’s personality.

“He was deeply complicated,” he said. “He was funny, and weird and awkward and clumsy and just hilarious and so insightful.”

Jack added that, despite appearances, his father was always aware. “People may have thought he was checked out, but most of the time he wanted you to think he was checked out,” Jack explained. “But he was very aware, always.”

Ozzy, who had been looking forward to spending more time with his grandchildren and enjoying life in England, left behind a legacy as one of rock’s most influential frontmen — and a father deeply loved by his family.
