Streaming giant Netflix has reportedly scrapped plans for a sports drama film that was set to feature actor Millie Bobby Brown. “Perfect,” which would have told the story of a collection of Olympic gymnasts, has been shelved after Brown departed after a conflict with the filmmakers.
Millie Bobby Brown Leaves Project Due to Creative Differences
GettyAccording to a report by Deadline, “Perfect” has been canceled after several issues during pre-production. The most important factor, though, was the departure of Brown. The “Stranger Things” and “Enola Holmes” star was set to take on the leading role in the film but seemingly left after encountering creative differences with the producers.
Brown was cast as Olympic gymnast Kerri Strug, the leader of the 1996 USA women’s gymnastics team — who went on to be known as “the Magnificent Seven” — who helped her team win team gold while performing with a significant ankle injury.
There’s no word on what the creative differences between Brown and the producers were and neither party has publicly commented. Netflix intended to put the film into production this summer.
Gia Coppola was initially tapped to direct the feature, with Ronnie Sandahl penning the script. It was earlier revealed that Coppola had also left the movie and was ultimately replaced by Cate Shortland in the director’s chair.
Netflix Moving Ahead With Other Millie Bobby Brown Productions
Although “Perfect” has been scrapped, that doesn’t mean that Netflix is moving away from Brown. The young actor has an overall deal with Netflix and has starred in a number of movies and television series over the last decade for the streamer.
This includes the critically acclaimed “Enola Holmes” mystery film and its sequel. The streaming company has since confirmed that “Enola Holmes 3” is in the works, with Netflix providing a first look at the film in January of this year.
The third entry in the series will continue the story of Enola Holmes, the younger sister of Sherlock and Mycroft, who sets out to prove her own abilities. Set in a modern take of the Victorian-era, the films also star Henry Cavill, Helena Bonham Carter, and Sam Claflin.
Reports suggest the new film will see Enola travel to Malta as she continues to grow as a character. Philip Barantini has replaced Harry Bradbeer as director, while Jack Thorne returns to write the script after also previously penning its two predecessors.
According to official information revealed by Netflix, the new sequel will see Himesh Patel return as Dr. John Watson. There is still no confirmed release date for the film, but reports indicate that the movie has a likely debut sometime in the summer of 2026.
