Like the song says, breaking up is hard to do.
It’s even harder when you’ve already broken up with someone who didn’t realize they’ve been dumped — and you have to break up all over again.
Breakup Blues
This is a phenomenon that Kelly Clarkson has experienced firsthand.
On Saturday, August 8, she was performing at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas for her Studio Sessions residency, an intimate, career-spanning set encompassing the “American Idol” winner’s best-loved hits.
While chatting with the audience while introducing her new single “I’d Be Lyin’,” she shared some details about the time she had to break up with the same person more than once.
A True Story
“I swear to God, I’ve had to break up with someone twice. That’s a real story. That’s true,” she began said, as reported by Just Jared.
“And it was hard both times. You feel like a piece of [expletive] both times,” she continued.
“P.S. And I looked at this person and they were like, ‘What do you mean?’ I was like, ‘What do you mean? We were there. We were both there. What the [expletive] did you hear? Like, it was already hard enough on both of us. Why are we doing it again?’ Like, it’s crazy,” she recalled.
Clarkson chalked it up to people hearing what they want to hear — and vice-versa.
“That happens, you know?” she added. “You say something and people filter that [expletive] and they hear what they want to hear. And it is crazy. So I ended up writing this song. I was like, this is about to — we need a song for this. Anyway, the verse is more or less like what they hear.”
Tough to Find Healthy Relationships
Later in the concert, she introduced her 2015 single “Piece by Piece” by discussing her own relationship history.
“It’s a reality for a lot of us. A lot of us…deserved better, and that’s a tough thing to grow up with…it’s a tough thing to find healthy relationships when you’ve never been shown one. But those are all excuses. I learned that in therapy,” she told the audience.
She continued by addressing the Lion’s Gate portal, which People explains is a rare astrological phenomenon when the Earth, the sun and Sirius are perfectly aligned. Ancient Egyptians believed to the portal would bring about “prophecies and visions which could help them live prosperously and abundantly.”
“There’s a lot of amazing things happening. Uh oh, there’s my boobs,” she said.
“They’re too small, they won’t come out…they’re perfect! But I just mean they’re not going anywhere. They’re perfect,” she said with a laugh before shifting back to the portal.
“Somebody was like, it’s the Lion’s Gate Portal. It’s 888. There’s so much energy out. Don’t speak negatively.’ So right when I made a self-deprecating joke, I’m like, just kidding, universe, my boobs are awesome…I got texts all last night like, ‘hey, tomorrow…don’t gossip, don’t speak ill of anyone or yourself, and put things out there that you want.’ And I was like, should we be doing this [expletive] every day?” she added.
“I don’t know if it should just be tomorrow, you know what I’m saying? I feel like this should be a life thing, right? But it’s in my head, so as soon as I like self-deprecation, I was like, ‘Just kidding!’” she quipped
