“The Brady Bunch” actress Eve Plumb, who captured hearts as middle sister Jan Brady, recently opened up about a surprising post-show attempt at romance with her on-screen brother, Peter Brady—played by Christopher Knight.
“It was sweet,” Plumb, 67, told Page Six in an exclusive interview. “It was fun, but we were really already by that time just too good of friends to make that transition into being romantic partners.”
The Two Tried to Share a Kiss, But Ended Up Laughing Instead
The potential romance occurred after the beloved show ended.
Plumb wrote in her book, per the outlet, that “any attempts at making out that evening ended with laughter and resignation that we’d always be sister and brother, even in real life.”
Despite the awkward attempt, the pair never lost their close bond.
“We’ve stayed friends to this day,” she shared with Page Six.
So much so that Plumb and her husband regularly Zoom with Knight and his wife—a ritual that began during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We’re due for one now,” Plumb noted, highlighting the long-lasting friendship born on set.
Plumb, who was already a seasoned child actress before landing the role of Jan, has been reflecting on her time on the iconic sitcom, which aired from 1969 to 1974 and went on to inspire spinoffs, specials, and two feature films.
She recently discussed her experiences in her new memoir, “Happiness Included: Jan Brady and Beyond.”
Plumb Shared Behind-the-Scenes Stories
While promoting her book with a Woman’s World interview, she touched on behind-the-scenes tensions, particularly between co-star Robert Reed and the show’s creator, Sherwood Schwartz.
“We knew there was tension,” Plumb recalled. “You’d hear the door slam, and then we’d go on and do something else. It’s like it is in any family—when there’s discord, you figure out a way to get through it.”
Even amid the occasional drama, Plumb fondly remembers the guidance and warmth of her on-screen mom, Florence Henderson.
“I get flashes of remembering standing next to Florence on the set under the hot lights,” Plumb said. “There was just this feeling of safety and of respect. You looked to them as an adult, as far as direction goes about what’s going on in the world, because you’re a child and they have to tell you what’s going on.”
For fans, these stories provide a rare glimpse at the personal dynamics behind one of television’s most beloved families.

Wow, that’s a surprisingly interesting story to come out of the Brady Bunch! I always imagined they were just friends.
