Dick Van Dyke was seen publicly for the first time since turning 100 late last year.
The beloved Hollywood icon, whose legendary career has spanned from classic movies like “Mary Poppins” to Hallmark’s “Murder 101” movie franchise, was recently spotted during a rare outing in California, with photos published by the Daily Mail on March 18, 2026.
He appeared in a wheelchair while enjoying fresh air and sunshine.

Dressed simply in a white shirt, gray pants and black slip-on shoes, the “Mary Poppins” star was gently pushed by a companion.
Van Dyke Turns 100
The sight marked a quieter, more vulnerable moment for the legendary performer, who celebrated his milestone 100th birthday in December after months of joyful anticipation.
The outing comes shortly after Van Dyke shared deeply personal thoughts about aging in an essay for The Times, where he candidly admitted he now feels “diminished” both physically and socially.
He also opened up about the emotional weight of outliving many of the people closest to him, writing, “Every single one of my dearest lifelong friends is gone, which feels just as lonely as it sounds.”
Despite those challenges, Van Dyke made it clear he hasn’t lost his sense of gratitude—or his will to keep going.
A major source of that strength is his wife, Arlene Silver, whom he credits with helping him maintain his joy and outlook on life.
Van Dyke Opens Up About His Marriage
The couple, who share a decades-wide age gap, continue to lean on their bond as a source of light.
“Without question, our ongoing romance is the most important reason I have not withered away into a hermetic grouch,” he shared with the Times.
With his signature humor, he also reflected on their age difference, noting that Silver makes him feel significantly younger than his years.
The two recently celebrated 14 years of marriage in February and actually tied the knot on leap day.
In an Instagram post to celebrate their special day, Silver made Van Dyke recall the moment he met her for the first time in 2006 during the SAG Awards.
“I was sitting in the green room where everybody waits to go on, and the place is full of actors and actresses. One thing about Hollywood actresses, they’re pretty heads on stick figures. So I know them in a minute,” he began.
Moments later Van Dyke met Silver. “I was sitting there just by myself, all of a sudden I see this vision approaching me. No stick figure, gorgeous! And I swear this, I never thought of getting up, I never thought of speaking, I found myself standing on my feet saying, ‘Hi, I’m Dick.’ I don’t know what hit me, but I just did it.”
He added how the two chatted, which led to him finding out she was a makeup artist. Van Dyke said, “so I hired her on the spot.”
