As reports circulate surrounding the mysterious disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos clarified claims of blood being found inside her home.
“I’m not sure where that came from,” Nanos told NewsNation on Tuesday, February 3. “Maybe I said something, and trust me, I’ve said a lot, talked to a lot of people. And some of those comments—on my fault, not the media—may have been distorted or taken out of context.”
He went on to say, “We’re not confirming whether there was blood in the home or any of that.”
According to Nanos, the DNA found inside the home was submitted to labs for analysis. As of Tuesday, all samples have been determined to belong to Guthrie.
“We were hopeful that it would give us a different profile than just hers, but that’s where we’re at with the DNA,” he told the outlet. “We have other items that we submit for DNA research and see what that comes up, but that was the first submittal we’ve got back, and we’ll continue to wait for lab results, see if we find something else.”
There Is ‘No Wider Threat’ to the Public
In an effort to calm residents of Guthrie’s Tucson suburb, Nanos informed the public that there is “no wider threat” to their safety.
Despite not having a motive for Guthrie’s abduction, Nanos said, “We have crime in Tucson all the time, like every city.”
“So, when you say a threat to the public, is there someone out there who is kidnapping elderly people in the middle of the night, every night? We have not heard that,” he added during a Tuesday press conference. “We don’t believe that’s the case.”
He added, “We do believe that Nancy was taken from her home against her will, and that’s where we’re at.”
The Search Continues for Nancy Guthrie
Nancy Guthrie, the beloved mother of “TODAY” host Savannah Guthrie, was reported missing on Sunday, February 1. After she did not show up for church on Sunday, friends of the 84-year-old reached out to her children.
After searching her home and property outside of Tucson, Guthrie’s children called 911.
Guthrie was last seen on Saturday evening as her eldest daughter, Annie Guthrie, dropped her off at home after a family dinner.
According to Nanos, Guthrie is without her life-saving medication.
“Look, if she is alive right now, her meds are vital,” he told NBC News on Monday. “I can’t stress that enough, you know. I has been better than 24 hours, and the family tells us, if she doesn’t have those meds, it could be fatal.”
