There were reports overnight of a possible home invasion in the Tucson, Arizona, area, leaving many curious about a possible connection to Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance.
On Monday, March 16, more than six weeks after the 84-year-old was abducted from her home, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department claimed there was no connection between her case and the reported crime.
“A PCSD spokesperson tells me the department [has] no info regarding today’s reports of a possible home invasion broadcast over police scanner radio last night — and whether it’s connected to the Nancy Guthrie case,” Mike Ruiz, an investigative reporter with Fox News, shared via X on Monday.
He went on to share a quote from the spokesperson, which read, “”The codes are different then what our department uses, which leads me to believe this is from another agency. All agencies are still fully functioning departments handling all calls coming in.”
Was the Home Invasion Connected to Nancy Guthrie?
NBCUniversalAfter Ruiz shared the quote from PCSD, former KVOA (a local Tucson news station) reporter Ricky Vazquez explained, “It was a Tucson Police call in the city. Nothing to do with the Guthries.”
“I’ve heard some police scanner audio going around from last night that people believe is a break-in near, or even on the same street as one of the Guthrie homes,” he later explained via X. “This scanner traffic is TPD, both homes are outside their jurisdiction, and they would not respond to that call.”
He added, “Second, some say the dispatcher says ‘Guthries,’ that name comes up when they discuss the registered owner of a 1999 Accord. I don’t believe the Guthrie family would have that car. Also, they would have said ‘Guthrie’ rather than ‘Guthries’ when saying the RO’s name.”
Nancy Guthrie Remains Missing
As the public knows, the 84-year-old mother of “Today” host Savannah Guthrie has been missing for more than six weeks. She was last seen at a family dinner hosted by her daughter, Annie Guthrie, on January 31.
The following day, after friends noticed her absence at her regular church service, she was reported missing.
In the days that followed, investigators were able to uncover footage from her front doorbell camera, which showed a masked, armed man tampering with the recording device in the early morning hours of February 1.
The FBI released a description of the suspect, asking the public for help locating a “male, approximately 5’9” – 5’10” tall, with an average build. In the video, he is wearing a black, 25-liter ‘Ozark Trail Hiker Pack’ backpack.”
