The Pima County Sheriff’s Department has confirmed that a body found in Phoenix, Arizona is not linked to the Nancy Guthrie disappearance. The 84-year-old has now been missing for more than a month after she was taken from her home in Tucson, Arizona, although there has been little in the way of a breakthrough in finding the mother of broadcaster Savannah Guthrie.
With law enforcement continuing to treat the case as a kidnapping, any piece of news in the area understandably leads to speculation that it is connected to the investigation. This was demonstrated recently when a body was discovered in Phoenix, Arizona, but now the Pima County Sheriff’s Department has revealed that the two events are not linked.
Law Enforcement Officials Confirm Discovered Body is Not Connected to the Nancy Guthrie Case
GettyOn Friday, news broke that a body had been found near a canal in Phoenix, Arizona. The deceased individual was said to be an adult woman, leading to speculation online that it may be linked to the disappearance of Nancy, especially given that the area is geographically close to Tucson, Arizona.
Police released a statement about the discovery of the deceased woman. It said, “Details on the call indicated that an adult female was on the nearby canal bank and was unresponsive. When officers arrived, they located the woman, who was ultimately pronounced deceased on scene.”
The Pima County Sheriff’s Department confirmed to Fox Digital News investigative reporter Michael Ruiz that the two cases are not connected. Ruiz wrote on X, “PCSD says it has not been advised of any law enforcement activity at the canal in Phoenix this morning being connected to the Nancy Guthrie case.”
Separately, a spokesperson for the sheriff’s office has told TMZ it has “not been notified of any connection reference that case to the Nancy Guthrie case.”
