“New York Live” and “Open House” host Sara Gore has developed a loyal following thanks to her time on both shows. Sadly, the beloved NBC host recently took to social media to share some challenging news- that she’d been diagnosed with breast cancer. Now, fans are offering her support after her brave admission.
The official “New York Live” Instagram page posted a video of Gore on April 29 with the caption, “An announcement from Sara Gore. Our ‘New York Live’ family is sending her all of our love.” She began her statement by discussing all the experiences she’s shared with viewers over the years.
Gore went on, “But today, I want to share something a little more personal, which is hard for me, because you know, this show has never been about me,” stating that the show is about “the city that we love.”
After that came the news. Gore stated, “I was recently diagnosed with breast cancer, and I’m going to be stepping away for treatment and surgery.”
Sara Gore Says She Was ‘High Risk’ For Breast Cancer
GettyGore continued her emotional confession, admitting that she was scared. According to her, “If I didn’t say that I was a little bit scared, I’d be lying — and caught off guard, quite frankly, which makes no sense because I watched my mother and my sister go through this.”
She went on, “I always knew I was high risk, and I always assumed this day would come.” After that, she acknowledged that no one is ever ready to learn that they have cancer, saying, “You’re just never ready, for some reason, even when you catch it early because you’re doing everything right.”
As Gore continued to bravely discuss her diagnosis, she became more emotional. Still, she continued, “It is an emotional blow, and I wasn’t ready for that. That actually really surprised me. It really stung.”
Despite admitting that the fear one has when faced with cancer, Gore remained strong. She added, “But I also know that I am exactly where I need to be and I’m surrounded by incredible doctors and people who are taking such good care of me at home.”
After that, she began to thank those who have been by her side, including her work family at “New York Live.”
The host added, “I feel very supported and as hard as this is, I’m choosing to believe — at least for me, in this moment in time — that maybe there is a gift in this even if I don’t fully understand what it is yet. I’m working on that part.
If anything, it’s already a reminder of how precious life is and how important it is to focus on what really matters … I’m going to come back better than ever, and I’m going to see you on the other side of this.”
The ‘New York Live’ Host Has Been With NBC For 20 Years
GettyGore is considered a legend when it comes to broadcasting. Notably, she’s been with NBC for over 20 years. She hosted “Open House” for 18 years and has now been with “New York Live” for 16 years.
In 2021, she spoke with the New York Post about juggling both shoes. Gore said, “They’re such a part of who I am and part of my daily routine. I’m so used to doing both of them, and I love it. It was a challenge in the beginning of the pandemic, because we’re used to doing a live show every day, but I have to give our team so much credit for so quickly and seamlessly figuring it out.”
