“Bachelorette” alum Katie Thurston has been facing her cancer diagnosis head-on. The beloved reality star shared a hopeful health update detailing her next steps.
‘Bachelorette’ Katie Thurston Shared a Hopeful Cancer Update
Thurston, 35, revealed via social media on Friday, January 16, that she has had to pause her cancer medication as she battles stage 4 breast cancer due to complications with her liver.
“So, I’m currently headed to my monthly blood draw, because my liver is having some issues,” Thurston began in a video shared via Instagram. “I did just have a liver MRI…The cancer does not exist there. That does not mean I’m cancer-free. I’m not quite there yet. But, my hope is to get my liver enzymes down, because they are elevated.”
She went on to explain that she has had to increase her blood test schedule from once a month to every other week as doctors monitor her liver enzymes.
“Why that sucks is because I have to actually pause my cancer medication,” she added. “Because when you have stage 4 breast cancer, not taking your medication is very scary.”
According to Thurston’s caption, her recent MRI on her liver showed “no evidence of disease.”
Despite needing to pause her cancer medication, the former reality star has tests scheduled for next month to determine whether her breasts also show “no evidence of disease.”
Katie Thurston’s Cancer Battle Timeline
Thurston was first diagnosed with breast cancer after discovering a small lump in her breast in late 2024.
“I had a small lump in my breast around the 10’oclock [sic] spot,” she explained in her Instagram Story in February 2025. “I discovered it myself. Thought maybe it was my period [or] maybe it was muscle soreness from working out. But, eventually, this lump never went away.”
She opted to freeze her eggs to preserve fertility before beginning chemotherapy. However, her treatment plan changed before she could start treatment due to updated pathology results.
“I got the call that my pathology results on my liver, breast and lymph nodes all came back as HER2 Negative, even though my original samples as Kaiser were HER2+,” Thurston wrote via Instagram that April. “I was minutes away from taking my steroid for chemo prep. Instead, I am headed to my doctor to discuss how this happened, what testing is needed and what this means for my new treatment plan. Sounds like chemo is off the table now.”
In October, she revealed that she was forced to postpone her scheduled double mastectomy due to complications with her liver.
“I just want to be so honest,” she said. “I know I seem positive sometimes, but it’s very hard to be positive.”
Thurston is continuing her cancer battle while living in New York City with her husband, Jeff Arcuri.

Good luck and Godspeed, young lady!
