Joe Amabile is giving Bachelor Nation another look at his recovery after undergoing brain surgery.
The former “The Bachelorette” star shared a new update Wednesday, Sept. 9, showing fans how his surgical scar is healing. In an Instagram carousel, Amabile included several photos of the scar as it continues to progress.
Amabile Showed Off His Scar
“I feel like my scar is coming along pretty nicely,” he wrote.
The post also included a much more lighthearted part of Amabile’s day: a photo of Scarr’s Pizza and a slice he picked up.
The combination of his recovery update and pizza stop gave fans another glimpse into his life as he continues adjusting after the major procedure.
Fans who have undergone brain surgery themselves quickly filled the comments with encouragement and shared their own experiences with surgical scars.
“Amazing! Stay strong! You’re inspirational!
My doctor did a great job hiding my scar in my hair but I would up losing so much hair from the trauma. I’m almost 3 years post surgery and you’d never know it’s under there. Spreading awareness and sharing your journey is brave and admirable.”
Another follower described having a scar similar to Amabile’s after undergoing two surgeries in the same week.
“Oh wow my scar goes from ear to ear similar to yours but further down!! Looks like I’m wearing a headband lol I got two brain surgeries within the same week-crazy!!!”
A third person opened up about their own recovery, writing, “Mine goes all around my left side of my head like a big C. Over a year post op and the hair grew out nicely”
The latest update comes after Amabile revealed this summer that doctors had discovered a lesion on his brain. Back in July, he told his Instagram followers that doctors had found “a blueberry-sized lesion” in his brain.
He Has Been Sharing His Health Journey With Fans
The former “Dancing with the Stars” contestant later underwent surgery, with doctors successfully removing the tumor. His wife, Serena Pitt, has remained by his side throughout the experience, and the couple have continued sharing updates with family, friends and fans.
Since the procedure, Amabile has offered candid glimpses at different stages of his recovery.
He previously showed followers the 23 staples in his head and has also documented his return to running as he works toward getting back to his normal routine.
The recovery has not been completely easy, though. Amabile has also spoken openly about experiencing some minor speech difficulties following the surgery.
He previously revealed that doctors diagnosed him with a “very low grade astrosytoma” and explained that his treatment will continue even after the tumor was removed.
“I will have to take a pill every day for the rest of my life to put the bad cells to sleep,” he said.
That ongoing treatment is part of Amabile’s new reality as he moves forward from the diagnosis and surgery.
For now, he appears determined to focus on the progress he is making.
By sharing everything from his scar’s appearance to his physical activity and everyday outings, Amabile has continued giving fans an honest look at what recovery can actually look like.
