Savannah Guthrie was set to be in Milan, Italy. But instead, she had to back out of co-hosting the opening ceremony of the 2026 Winter Olympics after her 84-year-old mother, Nancy Guthrie, went missing.
So, when kicking off their Olympic coverage, Mary Carillo and Terry Gannon started things by showing support for Savannah and her family.
“We’re certainly without a very important and beloved member of our team tonight,” Gannon said. “She is dearly missed by everybody.”
“She’s covered so many Olympics, and she loves it,” Carillo added. “Right now, of course, Savannah and her family are in unspeakable, unfathomable pain. We know that in the U.S., her extended family is legion. Savannah, my friend, it’s the same way here.”
“We send our love and prayers and all of our positive energy to Savannah tonight,” Gannon concluded.
Savannah Guthrie’s Replacement For The Winter Olympics Announced
Veteran sportscaster and former Tennis player Mary Carillo stepped in fro Guthrie at the 2026 Winter Olympics.
“Our hearts go out to Savannah and the entire Guthrie family. They continue to have our full support,” Molly Solomon, who is the executive producer and president of NBC Olympics Production, said, according to The Hollywood Reporter. “We are fortunate to have a deep bench of talented commentators who will step in and fill these roles. Mary is one of the most experienced Olympic commentators ever and a master storyteller. She and Terry will lead the American audience through one of the world’s greatest global moments. With his skill and versatility, Ahmed has proven time and again he can step into any hosting role, and we’re thrilled he’s available to handle our late night coverage before heading to Los Angeles for NBA All-Star Weekend.”
New Report Reveals Nancy Guthrie May Show She’s Still In Tucson Area
According to TMZ, authorities are looking closely at the alleged ransom note that they believe could give clues as to Nancy’s location. Specifically, if the letter is confirmed to be real, it may show that it isn’t too far from her Arizona home, where she was believed to be abducted.
The outlet adds that the demand is for millions in bitcoin in order to ensure Nancy’s safe return. And if they receive it, the “timeframe for how long it would take Nancy to be returned to Tucson after getting the money.”
“It seems Nancy would be driven back to Tucson — getting on a plane would require Real ID, and the jig would be up — and if you look at a timeframe, you can draw a radius around Tucson and get a feel for where she may be held captive,” TMZ wrote.
