Savannah Guthrie Puts Career on Hold as Mom Nancy Guthrie Remains Missing

“TODAY” host Savannah Guthrie was scheduled to head to Italy for the 2026 Winter Olympics opening ceremony on Friday, February 6. The beloved anchor will not joining her NBC family as her mom, Nancy Guthrie, remains missing.

“Savannah will not be joining us at the Olympics as she focuses on being with her family during this difficult time,” an NBC Sports spokesperson told Deadline on Tuesday, February 3. “Our hearts are with her and the entire Guthrie family as the search continues for their mother. We will share additional information about our Opening Ceremony coverage plans soon.”

Savannah Guthrie’s Mom’s Mysterious Disappearance

Nancy Guthrie, 84, was last seen late Saturday night after being dropped off at her home by eldest daughter Annie Guthrie, following a family dinner.

When friends noticed her absence at church the next morning, Guthrie’s children searched her home and property before calling 911 around noon on Sunday.

Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos revealed during a press conference on Monday, February 2, that Guthrie was abducted from her home “against her will.”

He claimed that the mother of three was taken from her bed, but later walked back that statement, claiming he was speaking “figuratively.”

Nanos told NBC News’ reporter Liz Kreutz that Guthrie was likely “harmed” during her kidnapping.

“[Nanos] would not tell us the extent of those injuries,” Kreutz said in a special report on Monday, February 2. “I was just in the neighborhood where this happened with some members of the community driving around with a photo of Nancy, desperately trying to find anyone who may have seen her.”

In addition to possible harm, Guthrie is also without her “vita”, life-saving medication.

“I can’t stress that enough, you know. I has been better than 24 hours, and the family tells us, if she doesn’t have those meds, it could be fatal,” Nanos added.

Savannah Guthrie Pleads for Prayers

Savannah took to social media on Monday evening to share a urgent plea with followers to help bring her mother home.

“We believe in prayer. We believe in voices raised in unison, in love, in hope. We believe in goodness. We believe in humanity. Above all, we believe in Him,” she wrote alongside an image that simply read, “Please Pray.”

“Thank you for lifting your prayers with ours for our beloved mom, our dearest Nancy, a woman of deep conviction, a good and faithful servant. Raise your prayers with us and believe with us that she will be lifted by them in this very moment,” she continued. “We need you…Bring her home.”
