Savannah Guthrie’s Co-Host Will Also Miss Winter Olympics as Search for Nancy Guthrie Continues

NBC announced this week that Savannah Guthrie will not be traveling to Italy as scheduled for the 2026 Winter Olympics. Now, the network confirmed that Guthrie’s co-host Craig Melvin will also be pulling out of Olympic duties.

Craig Melvin Not Attending Winter Olympics as Scheduled

Melvin was scheduled to host Olympic Late Night from Milan from February 7 to February 9. NBC announced Wednesday that Melvin “will also remain stateside.” Ahmed Fareed will take over Late Night duties in Melvin’s stead.

“With his skill and versatility, Ahmed has proven time and again he can step into any hosting role, and we’re thrilled he’s available to handle our late night coverage before heading to Los Angeles for NBA All-Star Weekend,” the network announced.

As the search continues for Nancy Guthrie, NBC was forced to find a replacement for Savannah, who was slated to co-host the Opening Ceremony alongside Terry Gannon.

“Our hearts go out to Savannah and the entire Guthrie family. They continue to have our full support,” said Molly Solomon, Executive Producer and President, NBC Olympics Production. “We are fortunate to have a deep bench of talented commentators who will step in and fill these roles.”

Former professional tennis player Mary Carillo was tapped to fill in for the “Today” host.

“Mary is one of the most experienced Olympic commentators ever and a master storyteller. She and Terry will lead the American audience through one of the world’s greatest global moments,” Solomon added.

The Search Continues for Nancy Guthrie

Nancy Guthrie was last seen in Saturday evening when she was dropped off at her home in Tucson, Arizona, by her eldest daughter, Annie Guthrie, following a family dinner. Friends noticed she was missing from her regular church service the next morning and reached out to her family. After searching her home and property, Guthrie’s children called 911 around noon on Sunday.

Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos revealed to NBC News on Monday that investigators believe Guthrie was taken from her home “against her will.” He added that she may have been “harmed” in the process.

On Tuesday, a video began circulating showing what appeared to be blood stains on the front porch of Guthrie’s home. Her Ring doorbell also appeared to have been removed.

After rumors spread that Guthrie’s son-in-law, Tommaso Cioni, was a possible suspect, Nanos shut down those reports.

“At this point, investigators have not identified a suspect or person of interest in this case,” he shared in a statement on Wednesday. “Detectives are working closely with the Guthrie family.”
