Savannah Guthrie will not be joining NBC in Italy for the 2026 Winter Olympics opening ceremony as her mother, Nancy Guthrie, remains missing. And with that, NBC has already announced who will be filling in for the popular “Today” host, which is Mary Carillo.
“Our hearts go out to Savannah and the entire Guthrie family. They continue to have our full support,” Molly Solomon, who is the executive producer and president of NBC Olympics Production, said, according to The Hollywood Reporter. “We are fortunate to have a deep bench of talented commentators who will step in and fill these roles. Mary is one of the most experienced Olympic commentators ever and a master storyteller. She and Terry will lead the American audience through one of the world’s greatest global moments. With his skill and versatility, Ahmed has proven time and again he can step into any hosting role, and we’re thrilled he’s available to handle our late night coverage before heading to Los Angeles for NBA All-Star Weekend.”
Carillo is a sportscaster and former Tennis player, having become a key part of Olympics coverage.
Authorities Now Looking Into Trespassing Case Near Nancy Guthrie’s Home
TMZ released a new report on Feb. 4, detailing how a “suspicious man was seen lurking in someone’s yard near Nancy Guthrie’s Arizona home several weeks ago,” and police are looking into whether there is any connection to the 84-year-old’s disappearance.
The news was told to the outlet by the Pima County Sheriff’s Department, who explained that “in early January, an elderly man spotted the trespasser at his Tucson home, less than 10 minutes away from 84-year-old Nancy’s house.” The elderly man also told TMZ that the “light spooked the uninvited guest, who fled on foot before anyone could get a good look at his face,” adding that nothing was stolen and there was no break-in attempt.
Police Clear Up Reports That A Person Of Interest Has Been Identified
Following a report by Journalist Ashleigh Banfield, who said that Nancy’s son-in-law, Tommaso Cioni, was identified as a possible suspect in the case, the police quickly came out with a statement addressing this.
“At this point, investigators have not identified a suspect or person of interest in this case. Detectives continue to speak with anyone who may have had contact with Mrs. Guthrie,” authorities wrote in a post on their social media pages. “Detectives are working closely with the Guthrie family. While we appreciate the public’s concern, the sharing of unverified accusations or false information is irresponsible and does not assist the investigation.”
“No suspect or person of interest has been identified at this time,” they concluded.
