Expert Says Savannah Guthrie’s New Video Sends a Powerful Message in Search for Mom

Savannah Guthrie’s most recent video message about her missing mother, Nancy Guthrie, is being closely examined by experts as the search continues, with one specialist suggesting the emotional appeal reflects resolve and urgency rather than defeat.

In the video, shared on Monday, Jan. 9, the “Today” show anchor appears visibly emotional as she asks for help in locating her mother, who has been missing for more than a week.

The plea quickly drew widespread attention — not just from the public, but from professionals experienced in crisis behavior and high-profile investigations.

An Expert Weighs In

Former CIA officer and FBI special agent Tracy Walder evaluated Savannah’s video for Page Six.

Walder noted that unlike the previous videos that were released, Savannah did not appear to be reading from a script.

“At least in my opinion. It is truly an off-the-cuff video,” Walder stated.

The decision to release another video came mere hours before the alleged ransom deadline is set to expire.

Walder also spoke about how this is the first video where it is just Savannah.

“Her doing it alone, I think she is desperate and was like, ‘OK, the FBI is not here. I’m going to go ahead and make a video and use my own platform and appeal to America,’” Walder added. “What seems to be the most logical is she decided, ‘I just need to say something now. I can’t keep waiting.’”

The Search for Nancy Enters Its Second Week

Nancy, 84, was last seen on the evening of Jan. 31 outside her Tucson, Arizona, home — a disappearance law enforcement officials have treated as a potential abduction.

With the investigation now entering its second week, Savannah and her siblings have taken to social media multiple times with emotional pleas for help, urging the public to come forward with information that could aid the search.

In her latest video, Savannah’s tone reflected both concern and faith, noting that the family is in “an hour of desperation” as they continue to press for answers.

She thanked supporters for their prayers and encouraged anyone, no matter where they live, to report anything that seems out of the ordinary to law enforcement.

“We believe our mother is still out there,” she said, appealing directly to viewers to remain vigilant.

The emotional plea comes amid an active investigation involving both the FBI and the Pima County Sheriff’s Department, who are pursuing multiple leads and reviewing alleged ransom notes reportedly sent to local news outlets and media organizations.

The Family Begs For Nancy’s Safe Return

Although authorities have not publicly confirmed suspects or verified the authenticity of the communications, the Guthrie family has been responsive and transparent in their outreach — publicly saying they are willing to negotiate and even pay for Nancy’s safe return.

Earlier in the week, Savannah and her siblings recorded a short clip pledging, “We received your message, and we understand… We beg you now to return our mother to us so that we can celebrate with her. This is the only way we will have peace. This is very valuable to us, and we will pay.”

Their message was accompanied by a caption that simply read “Bring her home.”
