UPDATE: New Clues Surface as Authorities Probe Floodlights, Alleged Ransom Note in Nancy Guthrie Case

Federal and local authorities investigating the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie have shifted their focus to specific physical details at her Tucson property — including floodlights mounted around her home — after an alleged ransom note received by media outlets reportedly referenced those features.

Investigators said that in the alleged note floodlights were mentioned, according to Fox News Digital.

Nancy, the 84-year-old mother of “Today” show anchor Savannah Guthrie, was last seen on the evening of Jan. 31 at her Catalina Foothills home near Tucson.

In the days since she was reported missing, law enforcement agencies including the FBI and the Pima County Sheriff’s Department have worked around the clock, following leads and collecting physical evidence at the scene.

Floodlights and Ransom Note Details

According to reporting from Fox News Digital, the alleged ransom note sent to outlets like TMZ contained a specific mention of a floodlight at Guthrie’s property — a detail investigators believe wasn’t previously public.

Footage from a drone flyover captured several exterior floodlights around the home, including at least one broken light dangling by a wire, raising questions about whether it was referenced accurately in the communication, TMZ reported on Saturday, Feb. 7.

TMZ founder Harvey Levin stated the alleged random note the outlet received mentioned of a “destroyed” floodlight.

FBI Phoenix field office leadership cited the note’s reference to property details, including floodlights and even an Apple Watch, as elements they are reviewing carefully — though officials are not disclosing full contents to preserve the integrity of the investigation.

Efforts to verify the ransom note’s authenticity remain ongoing, and authorities have emphasized that they are treating all communications — official or unverified — with caution.

In a recent press conference, law enforcement reaffirmed that while some notes have been received, no proof of life has been provided by senders.

At least one earlier ransom note was later determined to be fraudulent, and the person responsible was arrested on unrelated charges.

Officials say the current communications are under review, and they are working to determine relevance in real time.

Investigation Continues With Multiple Leads

Beyond the floodlight reference, investigators have collected other physical clues at the home, including blood matching Nancy’s on the porch, a disconnected doorbell camera and the loss of contact with her pacemaker’s monitoring app in the early morning hours after she was last seen.

The combination of these indicators has led authorities to treat the disappearance as a suspected abduction and pursue every conceivable lead.

Officials have not identified any suspects or released details about potential motives but continue to urge the public to come forward with tips, particularly any relevant surveillance footage or digital evidence from surrounding areas.

Savannah Guthrie and her family have repeatedly appealed for her safe return, and federal efforts include a reward for information that could help locate her or lead to arrests.

As the investigation progresses, the inclusion of specific physical references like floodlights in possible ransom communications represents a new and closely scrutinized detail that law enforcement hopes may aid in uncovering what happened during the hours surrounding Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance.
