Series 23 of ‘Strictly Come Dancing‘ is now well underway. The new lineup of celebrity participants — including former soccer star Karen Carney, model Ellie Goldstein, and drag queen La Voix — have all taken part in the launch show and weeks 1 and 2 of the 2025 edition of the show.
There have yet to be any eliminations from this series, though. All 15 celebrities and their partners are still preparing to take part in week 3 this coming weekend.
But that’s about to change. Week 3 will see the first couple voted out, meaning some of the poorer performing stars will need to put on a better show than their first few dances if they plan on sticking around for week 4 and beyond.
However, those viewers wishing to vote to save their favorites from elimination will no longer be able to do so by telephone, as per an announcement on the official ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ Instagram page.
‘Strictly Come Dancing’ Voting Is Now Online Only
In a video featuring ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ judge Craig Revel Horwood, the meanest of the four judges announces that the only way to vote on this year’s show is to do so online. The video is captioned, “The #Strictly vote is going ONLINE ONLY! ✨ Head to our website to register or sign in to your BBC account so you can vote for your favourite couple! ❤️”
Revel Horwood goes into further detail, saying, “The Strictly Come Dancing vote this year is going online only. In order for you to vote, you have to have a BBC account.”
He continued, “So to get ready to vote for this series of Strictly, go to bbc.co.uk/strictly where you can sign in or register for your BBC account. Once you’re registered, you’re good to go for the whole series, darlings!”
Revel Horwood then danced out of shot in typically flamboyant style.
The move brings the show well and truly into the 21st century. However, it’s a move that is set to cause some controversy — specifically with some of the older generation of ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ viewers.
Fans Pointed Out the Issues This May Cause

Fans of the show rushed to the comments to point out the problems the new system might cause for viewers of a certain age.
One fan wrote, “this is crazy when most of the watchers are elderly.”
Another commented, “Way to cut off most of your audience base.”
Someone else said, “my nan has been a fan of strictly for years and is not online at , it’s really upset her as she loves to support her favourite couples each year.”
An additional comment read, “Not everyone has Internet access or the computer skills for this. Particularly the older fans. Of which I am sure that there are many. For a show that’s seemingly doing its best to promote inclusion this makes that gesture feel quite performative.”
Meanwhile, one user was just sad to know that an iconic television line will no longer be used following the announcement, saying, “RIP to the great quotes of our time “please ask the bill payer’s permission first” and “your vote won’t count and your home may be repossessed”.”
It remains to be seen if the potential problems this may cause will result in the BBC having a change of heart. In the meantime, the new system will undoubtedly be implemented in the next episode of ‘Strictly Come Dancing.’ That will air this Saturday, October 4, at 18:20 p.m. on BBC One.
