Beloved ‘Star Wars’ & ‘Doctor Who’ Actor Passes ‘Suddenly’ at 60 — Tributes Pour In

A British actor known best for his roles in “Star Wars” and “Doctor Who” has sadly passed away at the age of just 60.

Per The Daily Star, Nick Joseph played Major Arhul Hextrophon, a medal bearer at the Royal Award Ceremony at the climax of 1977’s “Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope.”

The actor’s passing was said to be “sudden,” though no specific cause of death has yet been disclosed.

Joseph’s death was announced on Facebook by his best friend, Rick Stanley. Stanley wrote, “I received very sad news yesterday from Nick Joseph’s wife Dee that Nick had suddenly passed away. Steph and I are devastated hearing the news! I can’t believe I’ve lost my best friend. Steph and I have had many adventures over the years with Nick and Dee including Nick and I organising 4 Star Wars shows in that time. It chokes me up thinking how excited he was anticipating celebrating the 50th anniversary of Star Wars next year. I’ve added some photos below showing some of the adventures we went on with Nick and Dee. Steph and I send love and prayers to Dee and family at this very sad time. Rest in the force Major Arhul Hextrophon my dear friend. Until we meet again.”

His filmography included various credits in movies and on television.


Nick Joseph Had an Impressive Filmography

Nick Joseph’s acting career began in the 1970s an included notable credits on both the big and small screens.

His movie credits included the aforementioned “Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope” in 1977 and the James Bond offering “The Spy Who Loved Me” that same year.

On television, his credits included the war drama series “Secret Army,” the 1979 television film “The Lion, the Witch & the Wardrobe,” sci-fi series “Blake’s 7,” miniseries “We’ll Meet Again,” iconic sci-fi series “Doctor Who” (in which he appeared in six episodes, playing various characters), comedy sci-fi series “Galloping Galaxies!,” sports drama series “The Manageress,” and soap opera “Eastenders.”

Joseph also appeared in the fan-made 2016 “Doctor Who” short film “Tale of a Timelord.”

As news of Joseph’s passing began to circulate online, tributes to the much-loved actor began to pour in.


Tributes Pour In for ‘Awesome Person’ Joseph

Social media is now awash with tributes to the late Nick Joseph following his sad passing.

The Instagram account of the annual British pop culture charity event “Invasion Colchester” wrote, “We were very saddened to hear of the passing of Nick Joseph, known to Star Wars fans as one of the medal bearers in the original 1977 film.”

An Instagram user commented on that post saying, “Oh this is really sad, taken his pictures at many events, lovely guy and had some really wonderful stories. My thoughts are with his family 💙💙💙.”

Someone else posted a tribute to Joseph on Instagram and wrote, “Very saddened to hear of the sudden passing of Star Wars actor Nick Joseph. Very well known among the Star Wars community as one of the Medal Bearers in the original trilogy Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope. I attended countless Star Wars Conventions as a guest with Nick, all over the World and he was always warm, friendly and upbeat about life. If anyone deserved the Medal of Yavin, it was Nick! He will be greatly missed by the Star Wars Community. My sincere condolences to his wife Dee and all of his family at this time. May The Force Be With You Nick.”

One person replied to that post saying, “We were just chatting a few weeks ago… I’m stunned. 😓😓😓😓😓.”

Another individual replied to it, writing, “This is sad news to see today such a nice guy 😔.”

Underneath the Facebook announcement of Joseph’s passing by his friend, Rick Stanley, a Facebook user replied, “Omg I am so sad. He was an awesome person.”

Another Facebook user commented, “Oh no! He was such a great guy! Always loved meeting him! RIP.”

It hasn’t been made clear who Nick Joseph leaves behind in terms of his family. However, we’d like to send our heartfelt condolences to all of his nearest and dearest at this terribly upsetting time. May his memory be a blessing and may he rest in eternal peace.
