Taylor Swift knows a thing or two about music, and it’s fair to say that her opinion carries a lot of weight with Swifties
So when the recently married pop superstar puts her seal of approval on an album, fans are guaranteed that A) it will be worth their time, and B) sales of said album will soar through the roof.
‘Lost Weekend’ is ‘An Absolute Triumph’
Such is the case with “Lost Weekend,” the just-released album from singer-songwriter Phoebe Bridgers.
Swift has been giving the new LP a spin, and took to social media to share her love.
In a post she shared via Instagram Stories, Swift was unabashedly effusive in her praise.
“It’s her birthday but she gave us a gift,” wrote Swift. “Haven’t been able to stop listening. This album is an absolute triumph in every way.”
The one-time adviser on “The Voice” continued by sharing, “To write about grief with such vulnerability and detail, and to trust the listener with this much honesty. Happy bday @phoebebridgers I love you!”
A Big Bridgers Fan
Swift has been a cheerleader for Bridgers for quite a few years now. That was certainly evident when she invited Bridgers to join her onstage during the Eras Tour, with the two delivering an electrifying duet on their collab “Nothing New.”
In 2022, Swift told The Guardian that it was Bridgers’ originality that initially hooked her as a fan.
“I never once thought: this is who she’s referencing and this is who clearly has inspired her — she is the reference now,” Swift said.
She continued by explaining that the uniqueness of Bridgers’ music comes from the singular way in which she “juxtaposes conflicting themes like humour and depression, romance and nihilism, a tender vocal delivery with a razor-sharp box-cutter lyric. There’s always a twist.”
Friends and Collaborators
When Swift paid a visit to “Late Night with Seth Myers” back in 2022, she discussed her thrill at the opportunity to collaborate with various artists when recording outtakes that didn’t make it onto her earlier albums for various reasons.
“So, now that I get to go back and revisit my old work, I’ve dug up those songs from the crypt they were in, and I have reached out to artists that I love and said, ‘Do you want to sing this with me?'” she said.
“You know, Phoebe Bridgers is one of my favorite artists in the world,” Swift declared. “I just think she’s … like, if she sings it, I will listen to it,” she continued.
“I just love her voice, and then I also love that she’s a very funny person,” Swift added.
When getting in touch with artists to suggest a collab, Swift admitted that she tried to give them ample warning before calling them up.
“I try not to cold call them. It can go very bad. But I do send a very long text that I’ve crafted over many days,” she shared.
“So with Phoebe, I reached out and I sent her this song called ‘Nothing New,’ which I wrote when I was 22, and it’s really, really special to me …” Swift recalled. “And I sent it to Phoebe and said it would mean the world to me if you would do this as a duet … And her response was, ‘I’ve been waiting for this text my entire life.'”
