Joan Vassos was announced as the very first “The Golden Bachelorette” after appearing as a contestant on Gerry Turner’s debut season of “The Golden Bachelor” and making an impression on fans. Vassos love story became one of the few successful ones to come out of the series, with Vassos choosing contestant Chock Chapple in her finale. The couple has been going strong for over a year and a half.
In a recent interview, Chapple revealed that he almost didn’t go on the show, which would have made for a completely different finale for Vassos.
Chock Chapple Opens up About Joining ‘The Golden Bachelorette’
Getty“The Golden Bachelorette” star Joan Vassos and her fiancé Chock Chapple are continuing to prove that love can truly be found on reality TV. Now together for over a year and a half, it’s surprising to hear in a new interview that Chapple almost didn’t go on the show if it wasn’t for this one big reason.
In a joint interview with the “Two Be Continued” podcast, and sitting alongside Vassos, Chapple shared that he would not have joined the show as a contestant if Vassos were not the lead.
“It was very interesting because they ask you, ‘Who’s your type?’ What do you like? You go through a lot of pre-testing, a lot of inquiries — questionnaires,” he said, adding, “And then they came back with, when I had a Zoom meeting with the executive producers, they go, ‘What do you think about Joan?’ And I was at a point, I go, ‘If it’s not Joan, I’m not going.’”
He continued, “I really said that it’s just not for me, because there were some people’s names that were floating around … My daughter was living in L.A. and [she] goes, ‘I’ve got the inside scoop. It’s going to be Joan.’ And I don’t think she really did, but she knows a lot of people out here.”
“She knew it was going to be Joan before I think even Joan knew it was her,” he said. “But I was very, very direct, going, ‘It’s Joan or I’m not interested in coming.’”
Chapple & Vassos Give Fans an Update on Their Wedding Plans
Fans are eagerly awaiting news of Vassos and Chapple’s official wedding date, but it looks like they’ll have to wait a little longer.
Speaking to their Instagram followers in a Q&A, Chapple shared, “We get that [question] all the time. In 2025, Joan had a big wedding for her oldest son, Nick. And then she’s got another one getting married this year, so we’ve elected to not compete with them.”
Chapple continued, noting that a date next year looks more realistic. “Let them have their year. So you might look for something in 2027.”
Vassos was in total agreement with Chapple, stating, “Yeah, ’27. Hopefully, nobody else will get married, but I think you have a son who possibly could, so we’ll see!” the 63-year-old said. “We have grown kids and they just happen to be falling into that part of their lives too… We’ll get married sometime when our kids aren’t getting married.”
For now, the couple looks happy in love, spending time with their large families and traveling.
