Katie Thurston is opening up about her cancer journey — and offering fans a hopeful update one year after her diagnosis.
The former “Bachelorette” lead revealed in February 2025 that she had been diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer.
On Tuesday, Feb. 17, marking the first anniversary of that life-changing news, Thurston posted an Instagram video explaining her latest scan results.
“One year later and still on my first line of treatment!” she wrote in the caption, sharing the update with optimism.
What Her Latest Test Results Showed
In the video, Thurston said her most recent scans showed her tumor is “stable.”
While that means it hasn’t grown, it also hasn’t shrunk — something she admitted initially worried her.
“It’s the first time in the year that my tumor hasn’t been shrinking…which had me kind of spiraling a little bit,” she shared.
After speaking with her oncologist, Thurston said she felt reassured.
She explained that recent medication breaks could have influenced the results, and doctors confirmed the treatment is still working.
Importantly, there has been no new spread of the cancer.
Over the past year, Thurston said, the tumor has shrunk about 50 percent overall — encouraging progress that she and her care team are celebrating.
Because her cancer is metastatic, Thurston noted she expects to remain on treatment long-term.
She explained that staying on the same plan for as long as it works is the goal, since doctors have multiple options if changes are ever needed.
Looking Ahead With Hope
Thurston also shared that she plans to meet with a surgeon soon to discuss a double mastectomy.
The surgery has been part of her long-term plan, but she is just now reaching a point where it can realistically happen alongside her current treatments.
