Taylor Frankie Paul’s ex responded to her “Bachelorette” casting news—more than once.
“The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives” star’s ex-boyfriend, Dakota Mortensen, posted to his Instagram stories hours after ABC confirmed that she will be the next lead of the ABC dating show.
Mortensen, who shares a son, Ever, with Paul, appeared pensive in a photo in which he posed leaning on a fence with gray clouds rolling by in the background. “Had so many curve balls today, and every time I am always reminded there is nothing more important than God and family. Life is too short,” he captioned the photo.
Paul, 31, and Mortensen had an on-and-off relationship that played out during the first two seasons of Hulu’s “The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives.”
Dakota Mortensen Commented on ‘Call Her Daddy’s’ TikTok Clip
Paul first shared her stunning “Bachelorette” announcement on Alex Cooper’s “Call Her Daddy” podcast on Sept. 10. In a TikTok clip from her appearance on the podcast, Paul confirmed that her relationship with Mortensen was “over” and that it was she who made the decision to end the relationship. The mom of three—she shares two more kids, Indy and Ocean, with her ex-husband, Tate— then admitted she may have hooked up with Mortensen sometime around the Stagecoach festival in April.
“Maybe one after,” Paul told Cooper. “It’s been very confusing, if I’m being honest. I did want to end up with [Dakota].That’s no secret to anybody. …Did I love him? Absolutely. I had a baby with him. I wanted to be with him. But it just did not work out.”

Elsewhere on “Call Her Daddy,” Paul revealed she didn’t give Mortensen any kind of heads up that she was picked to be “The Bachelorette.”
“I have not confirmed it with him. So I don’t know if he knows or if he knew I had the opportunity,” she told Cooper, before admitting she expects that he would be “sad” about the news.
“If anything he says is real, I would say sad,” she said. “He does know that I was dating and, you know, meeting people, so that we’ve already had that first hurt, I guess. I think that’s the hardest part is when you see their first dating or hookup or whatever it is. That’s gonna always take a toll no matter what.”
