Taylor Frankie Paul Defends Herself Amid Investigation: ‘It’s a Heavy Time’

Taylor Frankie Paul is speaking out for the first time following news of an ongoing domestic assault investigation involving her and ex Dakota Mortensen, and she’s being honest about how difficult this moment has been.

The “Bachelorette” star made her first public appearance March 17 in New York City at a press event for her upcoming season, where she addressed the situation head-on. While she did not go into specifics, she opened up about the emotional weight of everything happening at once.

“Honestly, just like, my heart hurts to see it, to go through it, especially at this time,” Paul told People. “Just the timing is hard, and it’s a big deal.”

She added that showing up wasn’t easy, especially with so much attention surrounding her. “It’s extremely hard, and it took everything to get me here today,” she said.

Choosing to Show Up Despite a Difficult Moment

Even with everything going on, Paul made it clear she didn’t want to miss such a major moment in her career. The reality star emphasized that continuing to show up felt important, even when it’s uncomfortable.

“It’s just heavy. It’s a heavy time, and it’s unfortunate,” she said. “I’m struggling for sure, but also at the same time I feel like if I don’t show up, then I’m just giving these opportunities away… I just feel like it was the right thing to do… show up even though it’s hard.”

Her new season of “The Bachelorette” is set to premiere March 22 on ABC, marking a major milestone as she steps into the lead role. Paul shared that accepting the opportunity was an easy decision, with one priority at the center of it all.

“The only condition I had is if I was able to see my children,” she said, highlighting how important her family remains during this time.

She also reflected on how stepping outside of her usual environment gave her a new perspective. Being part of the show allowed her to reconnect with herself in a more positive way.

“There was a lot of reassurance in who I am,” she explained. “It kind of brought out my true side… belief in me, value, worth.”

What’s Next as She Moves Forward

The investigation remains ongoing, with a spokesperson confirming that “allegations have been made in both directions,” according to The Hollywood Reporter. Filming for “The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives” has also been paused for now as the situation continues to unfold.

Still, Paul appears focused on moving forward. According to earlier reporting, her relationship with Mortensen has been complicated, but both have been prioritizing growth and co-parenting their son.

She has also received some support from contestants on her season, with several choosing to stand by her and focus on who she is today.

For now, Paul is navigating a challenging chapter while continuing to show up for her career and her family, even when it isn’t easy.

“It’s just heavy. It’s a heavy time,” she said.
