Sometimes, a coach just knows.
Long before the confetti fell on “The Voice” Season 29, Adam Levine had a feeling he was sitting on something special. That instinct paid off in a big way when his artist, Alexia Jayy, was crowned the very first “Battle of Champions” winner; a moment that felt both earned and, in hindsight, almost inevitable.
Adam Levine Saw a Star From the Very First Note
From the moment Levine heard Alexia Jayy sing, he knew she had something rare and he didn’t hesitate to say it.
During her Blind Audition, she earned the season’s first Triple Chair Turn.
To make his pitch for Team Levine, the Maroon 5 frontrunner confidently laid out exactly how he and Jayy could go all the way and win the competition.
“The song you sang, Aretha Franklin written by Carole King. Two very different people came together to create one of the best moments in music history because they were different,” he said after Jayy’s performance.
“Maybe the way for you to go all the way here is to do it with somebody maybe not everybody would expect.”
And in a moment that almost felt scripted, Jayy’s 9-year-old son Matthew proudly declared that Maroon 5 was his favorite group. It turned Levine’s eventual role in her victory into a full-circle moment fans can’t stop talking about.
The Advice That Changed Everything

Levine’s winning strategy wasn’t about over-coaching, it was about timing.
Although Levine successfully kept Jayy on his team throughout the entire season, the Maroon 5 singer confessed to NBC Insider that he couldn’t claim much credit for her victory beyond that.
“I don’t say that just to be humble,” Levine said. “She was so calm. I didn’t need to tell her much. I mean, there were little moments where she would be nervous and she’s like, ‘How do I get out of my head?’ And I’m like, ‘Just keep doing what you’re doing.”
He describes Jayy as naturally “game-ready,” someone who didn’t need constant direction to shine. Instead, his role became helping her stay grounded and focused when the pressure mounted.
A Full-Circle Moment for Team Levine

The victory marks a meaningful milestone for Levine, who now ties with Kelly Clarkson in “Battle of Champions” wins.
After stepping away from the show and later returning, Levine has described this chapter as both refreshing and rewarding. The chemistry, the energy — and clearly, the results — all clicked.
And while he may downplay his role, his belief in Jayy from day one speaks volumes.
What’s Next for Alexia Jayy
If Levine’s prediction holds true, this is only the beginning.
He sees limitless potential in Jayy, comparing her presence to legendary voices like Aretha Franklin and Lauryn Hill. It’s high praise — but one that feels justified given her trajectory.
Levine proudly claims that he is Alexia Jayy’s “biggest cheerleader” and a “huge fan.”
Jayy, for her part, isn’t slowing down. She’s already released her debut single, “Rent Free,” and is focused on getting her music out to as many people as possible.
She told NBC Insider that her goal is simple: keep performing, keep growing and keep doing what she loves.
And if her journey on “The Voice” proved anything, it’s that she’s just getting started.
