Kelly Clarkson Can’t Hide Her Love for Coaching ‘The Voice’

After six seasons away, Kelly Clarkson has returned to “The Voice,” and she isn’t hiding her love for the reality competition series.

The first “American Idol” winner exited the NBC series in 2023, after Season 23, to focus on hosting “The Kelly Clarkson Show.” She is thrilled to return to “The Voice: Battle of Champions” for Season 29 and take a mentorship role, after giving all her focus to filming her talk show for the past several seasons.

Kelly Clarkson told Entertainment Tonight that the reason she stepped back from “The Voice” was that the filming schedule for the singing competition series didn’t work out alongside her other professional commitments.

Kelly Clarkson ‘Really Missed’ Being on ‘The Voice’

“I have missed ‘The Voice,’ she explained in an interview alongside fellow coaches John Legend and Adam Levine for “Entertainment Tonight.” “The schedules didn’t work out before.”

She continued, “The fact that the schedule suited me more in the summertime was awesome because I really missed it. I think for me, what’s exciting is that on my other show (‘The Kelly Clarkson Show’) I’m singing songs all the time so I’m always gearing up to perform”

“This is fun because I get to play with other artists. I’m not in the front. I get to be in the background and I really did miss that,” the 90s hitmaker concluded.

In her “Entertainment Tonight” interview alongside John Legend and Adam Levine, Kelly Clarkson shared what she believes is the most “exciting” thing about working with her fellow “Voice” coaches again.

“For me, the most exciting thing this season is that we have already worked together,” Clarkson explained. “We already have a working relationship.”

She added, “There’s more witty banter. We’re fun and it’s easy. It makes it more relaxing.”

“Nobody’s like, ‘what do we do here?’ We’ve already done it,” she concluded.

This is the first “Voice” season in the series’ history that there are only three coaches instead of the usual four. Clarkson, Levine, and Legend were in agreement that having a trio of coaches worked out extremely well.

Clarkson said, “I love it.” Levine agreed, “I love it so much.”

She added that she felt like this new format was “easier.” Levine said “the flow” of the show appeared to run smoother with only a trio of coaches vying for contestants. Legend added that the “vibe was super comfortable” on the set.

“The Voice: Battle of Champions” airs on Monday nights at 9 p.m. ET on NBC. New episodes air the next day on Peacock.
