Reba McEntire is back on “The Voice” for season 28, and she’s spilling all about her bond with fellow coaches Snoop Dogg, Niall Horan, and Michael Bublé. From chance encounters on planes to Celebrity Fight Night, the country superstar says the chemistry between the coaches was instant, and fans can expect plenty of laughs, mentorship, and surprises when the new season premieres September 22.
Reba McEntire’s Bond With Fellow Coaches
In a new video shared by NBC, McEntire sits down with the other season 28 coaches. The group discusses their greatest stories from the show, including how Reba befriended each of her co-stars.
During the clip, McEntire explains, “I met [Snoop] on a plane. We were coming back from Africa or Amsterdam. We met, took a picture together. I met [Bublé] at Celebrity Fight Night in Phoenix, and then, being a mentor on ‘The Voice,’ I met [Horan] and we hit it off.”
Horan, best known for his time with One Direction, talks about he was so happy to be a coach with McEntire on the show. Horan served as a coach during the show’s 23rd and 24th seasons, and Reba became a coach during season 24.
“I was so happy when you were coming on season 24 because at that point, I don’t think you had signed up to do it. You were just coming on to mentor, and then Blake [Shelton] left, and thank God you came. It was so fun,” Horan said to McEntire.
Meanwhile, Snoop Dogg talked about how he had an immediate connection with his fellow season 28 coaches.
“I think it was the first moment for me. I’m one of those kinds of guys where the spirit has to connect instantly. As soon as I walked through the room, as soon as we sat down next to each other, you could feel it. It’s in the air,” said the rapper.
Reba Didn’t Want To Be a Source of Negativity
McEntire joined “The Voice” as a coach for season 24. She remained in that role for season 25 and season 26. Now, after one season off, she is back for season 28.
However, during an interview on “Late Night With Seth Meyers,” Reba said she didn’t want to be a coach on the show when it first premiered in 2011. She said she originally turned down the position because she didn’t want to be a source of negativity.
McEntire told Meyers, “I was truly dreading it at first because I don’t want to tell anybody that they suck. I passed on it years ago when it came over from Holland. And I said, ‘I can’t tell somebody don’t give up your day job.’”
However, being on the show has changed her perspective, especially when working with her fellow season 28 coaches. The “Happy Place” star said, “Everyone who is coming back, which is myself, Snoop, Michael, Niall, we’re nice people. We encourage. We lift up.”
“The Voice” season 28 premieres on Monday, September 22, at 8 p.m. ET on NBC.
